Narrow Intrinsic Line Widths and Electron-Phonon Coupling of InP Colloidal Quantum Dots

David B. Berkinsky et al.

Summary: Red-emitting InP/ZnSe/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) have narrower line widths than typically synthesized CdSe QDs, making them suitable for high color purity displays. Our analysis reveals that at low temperatures, phonon scattering and fine-structure splitting are the main broadening mechanisms, while at elevated temperatures, phonon scattering dominates and optical scattering plays a minor role in line broadening. These findings can inform the rational design of QD materials with narrower line widths.

Interface polarization in heterovalent core-shell nanocrystals

Byeong Guk Jeong et al.

Summary: This study presents an approach to control the potential profile of III-V-II-VI h-NCs by steering dipole densities at the interface, allowing for control of the optical and electrical characteristics of these heterostructured nanocrystals. The synthesis of h-NCs with atomic precision enables correlation of interfacial dipole moments with the crystals' photochemical stability and optoelectronic performance. Controlled synthesis of heterostructured III-V-II-VI nanocrystals demonstrates that dipole moments formed at the core-shell interface can tune the optoelectronic properties of these nanomaterials and their performance in light-emitting devices.

Effectual Interface and Defect Engineering for Auger Recombination Suppression in Bright InP/ZnSeS/ZnS Quantum Dots

YuJin Lee et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of shell structure and composition on photoluminescence properties of quantum dots. It discovers that gradient shells can effectively suppress nonradiative Auger recombination and improve the luminescence of the dots. Single-dot measurements show that gradient shells reduce spectral diffusion and enhance the energy barrier for charge trapping.

Full-Spectrum InP-Based Quantum Dots with Near-Unity Photoluminescence Quantum Efficiency

Hannes Van Avermaet et al.

Summary: This study presents a synthesis protocol for forming InP-based quantum dots with high quantum efficiency across the full visible spectrum. By introducing specific interfacial treatments and a core/shell/shell structure, the researchers achieved the intended emission color while minimizing line broadening caused by lattice mismatch. The realization of this high quantum efficiency in full-spectrum color conversion will greatly facilitate research into light-matter interaction.

State Filling and Stimulated Emission by Colloidal InP/ZnSe Core/Shell Quantum Dots

Filipe Sousa Velosa et al.

Summary: This study investigates the properties of photo-excited InP/ZnSe quantum dots using femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy. It is found that with increasing exciton number, the band-edge bleach evolves and net stimulated emission is observed. The lower-than-expected gain threshold is explained by considering the Stokes shift between band-edge absorption and emission.

Identity of the reversible hole traps in InP/ZnSe core/shell quantum dots

Anne Myers Kelley et al.

Summary: Density functional theory calculations combined with time-resolved photoluminescence experiments determine that excess indium in the shell of InP/ZnSe/ZnS core/shell/shell quantum dots (QDs) can reversibly trap photoexcited holes, most likely due to a substitutional indium adjacent to a zinc vacancy. The addition of zinc oleate or acetate decreases trapping, while alkyl carboxylic acids increase trapping. These findings are important for understanding the properties of quantum dots.

Unusual Spectral Diffusion of Single CuInS2 Quantum Dots Sheds Light on the Mechanism of Radiative Decay

Stijn O. M. Hinterding et al.

Summary: The luminescence of CuInS2 quantum dots differs from many other types, with single core-only and core/shell CuInS2/CdS QDs exhibiting unique photophysical properties. These differences reflect the dipole moment of CuInS2's excited state and the preferred site of hole localization within the QD.

Extremely Slow Trap-Mediated Hole Relaxation in Room-Temperature InP/ZnSe/ZnS Quantum Dots

Anh T. Nguyen et al.

Summary: Time-resolved photoluminescence and transient absorption spectroscopy were used to study hole relaxation dynamics in high-quality InP/ZnSe/ZnS quantum dots. Hole relaxation rates varied with In/P ratio, emission wavelength, and excess indium content. Slow hole relaxation in red-emitting QDs was attributed to transient population of indium-based traps in the ZnSe shell.

Biexciton Binding Energy and Line width of Single Quantum Dots at Room Temperature

Sander J. W. Vonk et al.

Summary: A novel spectroscopic method, cascade spectroscopy, was used to quantify the biexciton line width and binding energy of single CdSe/CdS/ZnS colloidal quantum dots at room temperature. The average emission line width of biexcitons was found to be 86 meV, similar to that of excitons, with variations in biexciton repulsion more narrowly distributed than variations in exciton energy. Inhomogeneous broadening in the sample was primarily attributed to variations in the CdS shell thickness.
