Tunable modulators based on single and double graphene-based resonator systems in the mid-infrared spectrum

T. Nurmohammadi et al.

Summary: This paper numerically studies tunable modulators based on single and double graphene-based resonator systems in the mid-infrared spectrum. Multiple factors are discussed, including the effect of geometrical parameters on resonance wavelengths, modulation depth calculations, and positive, negative, and linear amplitude modulation. Plasmon-induced transparency windows are revealed for double resonator systems, and the maximum modulation depth is found to be 74%.

Multiple Tb/s Coherent Optical Transceivers for Short Reach Interconnect

Jianying Zhou et al.

Summary: This paper investigates coherent optical transceivers for short-reach interconnect and proposes a miniature Mach-Zehnder modulator (mMZM) array to enable high-density, low-power multiple Tb/s coherent transceivers. With optimized design and state-of-the-art technologies, highly integrated multiple Tb/s coherent transceivers with high density, high speed, and low power are achieved.

Graphene transfer methods: A review

Sami Ullah et al.

Summary: Graphene, a material with unique properties, has wide applications in electronics, catalysis, energy, and bio-related fields. Chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is a key method for growing high-quality graphene on non-technological substrates, with efforts towards efficient transfer of the material onto technologically relevant materials. Various graphene transfer techniques are reviewed in terms of contamination control, structural integrity preservation, scalability, cost, and time-effectiveness in this article. Discussions are made on transfer challenges, alternative options, and future developments in graphene technology.

2D-3D integration of hexagonal boron nitride and a high-κ dielectric for ultrafast graphene-based electro-absorption modulators

Hitesh Agarwal et al.

Summary: By showcasing the integration of 2D-3D dielectrics in a double-layer graphene EA modulator, this research has successfully overcome the trade-off between high speed and large modulation efficiency. The new material combination enables the modulator device to achieve higher performance, with a bandwidth of approximately 39 GHz and a three-fold increase in modulation efficiency compared to previously reported high-speed modulators.

Toward coherent O-band data center interconnects

Pascal M. Seiler et al.

Summary: This work addresses the lack of a clear path toward reducing cost and power consumption in upcoming generations of coherent intra/inter data center interconnects. It evaluates the trade-offs associated with transitioning from coherent C-band to O-band silicon photonics, focusing on optical components, fiber link, and transceivers. A monolithic silicon photonic BiCMOS O-band coherent receiver is evaluated for its potential performance and compared to a similar C-band device as a major component of these links.
