Novel one-dimensional V3S4@NC nanofibers for sodium-ion batteries

Zan Huang et al.

Summary: In this study, a facile electrospinning method was used to fabricate novel one-dimensional V3S4@NC nanofibers as anodes for sodium-ion batteries. The composite consists of monoclinic-structured V3S4 nano-crystals uniformly embedded in one-dimensional carbon fibers with high electrical conductivity. Electrochemical tests showed that the V3S4@NC anode exhibited excellent rate capability and cyclic life due to its superior electron transfer conductivity. It demonstrated high reversible capacities of 455, 343, 307, and 249 mAh g-1 at 0.1, 1, 2, and 5 A g-1, respectively, and retained 96.5% capacity at 10 A g-1 after 300 cycles. This promising strategy provides a new direction for high-performance V3S4 anodes in sodium-ion storage.

ON THE SMALLEST NUMBER OF FUNCTIONS REPRESENTING ISOTROPIC FUNCTIONS OF SCALARS, VECTORS AND TENSORS

M. H. B. M. Shariff

Summary: In this article, it is proven that for isotropic functions depending on P vectors, N symmetric tensors, and M non-symmetric tensors, the minimal number of irreducible invariants for a scalar-valued isotropic function is 3P+9M+6N-3, the minimal number of irreducible vectors for a vector-valued isotropic function is 3, and the minimal number of irreducible tensors for a tensor-valued isotropic function is at most 9. The minimal irreducible numbers obtained in this study are generally much lower than those found in previous literature. This significant reduction in the numbers of irreducible isotropic functions has the potential to substantially reduce modeling complexity.

Analytical model for the nonlinear buckling responses of the confined polyhedral FGP-GPLs lining subjected to crown point loading

Xinhui Xiao et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on the nonlinear buckling responses of the confined functionally graded porous (FGP) lining with polyhedral shapes reinforced by graphene platelets (GPLs). The nonlinear governing equilibrium equations are obtained explicitly by combining the thin-walled shell theory and the principle of minimum potential energy, and the critical buckling load is determined. A comparison study is conducted with other closed-form solutions for circular lining. The effects of polyhedral shapes, porosity coefficient, weight fraction, and geometric parameters of the GPLs on buckling load, hoop force, and bending moment are explored.

A non-second-gradient model for nonlinear elastic bodies with fibre stiffness

M. H. B. M. Shariff et al.

Summary: In the past, fibre stiffness of finite-radius fibres was modelled using nonlinear models based on strain-gradient theory or Kirchhoff rod theory. However, these models have limitations in characterizing the mechanical behaviour of non-polar elastic solids with finite-radius fibres. This paper proposes a simple and realistic constitutive equation for non-polar elastic solids reinforced by embedded fibres, without using the second gradient theory.

A Generalised Time-Dependent Mathematical Formulation for Magnetoelectrically Coupled Soft Solids at Finite Strains

Mohd Halim Bin Mohd Shariff et al.

Summary: This paper improves the existing literature by developing a time-dependent electromagnetic constitutive equation to describe the mechanical behavior of soft solids at finite strains, considering the full form of the Maxwell equations. The proposed model introduces a symmetrical total stress and utilizes recently developed spectral invariants in the amended energy function, making it relatively simple and suitable for finite element analysis.

A generalized strain approach to anisotropic elasticity

M. H. B. M. Shariff

Summary: This work proposes a generalized Lagrangian strain function and volumetric strain function to characterize isotropic/anisotropic strain energy functions. The spectral approach enables the development of consistent strain energy functions with their infinitesimal counterparts, allowing future modellers to construct specific forms of strain energy functions based on single-variable strain functions. The physical interpretation of spectral invariants aids in experiment design and construction of specific forms of strain energy, while the resulting constitutive equations can exclude or partially exclude the mechanical influence of compressed fibres and model fibre dispersion in collagenous soft tissues.

Effect of Dielectric Relaxation of Epoxy Resin on Dielectric Loss of Medium-Frequency Transformer

Zhicheng Wu et al.

Summary: This article investigates the dielectric loss of epoxy resin (EP) in medium-frequency transformers (MFTs) through experiments and simulations. The results show that the addition of anhydride hardeners containing benzene ring or a methyl substituent can reduce the dielectric loss, and the EP cured by methyl nadic anhydride (MeNA) has the lowest dielectric loss. This study provides important insights for the selection of insulating materials in MFTs.

On the constitution of polar fiber-reinforced materials

K. P. Soldatos et al.

Summary: This article presents important constitutive refinements and simplifications in the theory of polar elasticity of materials reinforced by a single family of fibers resistant in bending, investigating the lack of ellipticity of the governing equations and the existence of weak discontinuity surfaces even in the small deformation regime. The potential activation of such surfaces is related with the action of fiber-bending or fiber-splay deformation modes, as well as their combination and coupling with their fiber-twist counterpart.

Improving Physical Layer Security of Uplink NOMA via Energy Harvesting Jammers

Summary: This study investigates the secrecy transmission of uplink non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) with energy harvesting jammers. Three different friendly EH jammer selection schemes are proposed to enhance system secrecy performance. Analytical and numerical results show that these schemes can achieve better secrecy performance than conventional schemes without EH jammers, with different levels of secrecy diversity orders and convergence to the same effective secrecy throughput floor.
