Beyond-mean-field approaches for nuclear neutrinoless double beta decay in the standard mechanism

J. M. Yao et al.

Summary: Nuclear weak decays provide important insights into fundamental symmetries in nature, and accurately describing these processes requires comprehensive understanding of strong and weak interactions in the nuclear medium and quantum many-body dynamics. Observing the hypothetical double beta decay without neutrino emission would demonstrate the Majorana nature of neutrinos and the violation of lepton number. It would also offer valuable information about the order and scale of neutrino masses.

Statistical analysis for the neutrinoless double-β-decay matrix element of 48Ca

M. Horoi et al.

Summary: In this paper, a statistical analysis of the 48Ca 0 nu beta beta nuclear matrix elements (NME) is proposed using the interacting shell model. The range of the NME probable values and their correlations with observables from existing nuclear data are emphasized. A common probability distribution function for the 0 nu beta beta NME is proposed, with a range of (0.45-0.95) at 90% confidence level and a mean value of 0.68.

Coupled-Cluster Calculations of Neutrinoless Double-β Decay in 48Ca

S. Novario et al.

Summary: The study computes the nuclear matrix element for the neutrinoless double-beta decay of Ca-48 using coupled-cluster theory and nuclear interactions from chiral effective field theory. The results show a relatively small matrix element for Ca-48. Additionally, the nuclear matrix element for the two-neutrino double-beta decay of Ca-48 is calculated with a quenching factor deduced from recent two-body currents calculation.

Nuclear matrix elements for the 0νββ(0+ → 2+) decay of 76Ge within the two-nucleon mechanism

Dong-Liang Fang et al.

Summary: This paper presents the first beyond closure calculation for the neutrinoless double-beta decay of Ge-76 to the first 2(+) states of Se-76 using the two nucleon mechanism. The nuclear structure calculations are based on the isospin symmetry restored quasiparticle random-phase approximation method with the charge-dependent-Bonn realistic force. Analysis of the nuclear matrix elements indicates the importance of g(pp) in the calculations and suggests a slight suppression for the transition matrix element M-lambda when quenching is included. The results for the transition matrix elements are approximately one order of magnitude larger than previous projections with the closure approximation.
