Adsorbent Coatings for Adsorption Heat Transformation: From Synthesis to Application

Larisa Gordeeva et al.

Summary: Adsorptive heat transformation (AHT) is a technology that effectively utilizes low-grade solar or waste thermal energy for cooling and heating with low environmental impact. The power of AHT is mainly determined by ad/desorption dynamics, which is hindered by slow heat transfer between the adsorbent and heat exchanger. Coating the adsorbent bed on the heat exchanger surface is considered an effective way to enhance heat transfer and increase the AHT power. This review comprehensively surveys the technology of adsorbent coating for AHT, including synthesis, dynamics, and applications.

An experimental evaluation of convective heat transfer in multi-layered fibrous materials composed by different middle layer structures

Xiaoman Xiong et al.

Summary: This study prepared three types of multi-layered fibrous materials with different middle layer structures and evaluated their convective thermal behaviour in cross flow using a custom-built device. The results showed that the heat transfer coefficient of the material with encapsulated aerogels is directly proportional to Reynolds number, and significant variances in heat transfer rates were observed among the three structures at low airflow velocity.

Optimized sorber bed heat and mass exchangers for sorption cooling systems

Hesam Bahrehmand et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates improved thermal diffusivity in sorption systems by adding graphite flakes to the sorbent and optimizing sorber beds. Analyzing all components of the sorber bed simultaneously is shown to be crucial for optimization, along with optimizing specific cooling power and coefficient of performance concurrently due to conflicting trends. Optimization results in the development of new sorber bed designs achieving higher performance compared to off-the-shelf heat exchangers.
