Significance of hydrogen energy to control the environmental gasses in light of COP26: A case of European Countries

Ghazala Aziz et al.

Summary: The study analyzes past and predicted data from 2015 to 2030 to explore solutions for controlling environmental gases in European countries. Using dynamic simulated ARDL, it finds that hydrogen energy consumption is an optimal solution for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Increased energy consumption is unexpectedly correlated with reduced greenhouse gas and domestic carbon emissions. The study also highlights the significant contribution of domestic and international transport to environmental damage due to high fossil fuel consumption. KRLS estimations support these findings and suggest investing in green hydrogen production to mitigate environmental damage.

Decomposing scale and technique effects of financial development and foreign direct investment on renewable energy consumption

Muhammad Shahbaz et al.

Summary: This paper contributes to the literature by examining the effects of scale and technique on renewable energy consumption, taking into account foreign direct investment (FDI) and financial development. The empirical results show a positive correlation between financial development and renewable energy consumption, as well as a positive correlation between FDI and renewable energy demand. Composition effects have a negative impact on renewable energy consumption. Long-term estimation results indicate a U-shaped relationship between renewable energy-FDI and renewable energy-financial development associations.

The effect of nuclear energy on the environment in the context of globalization: Consumption vs production-based CO2 emissions

Danish et al.

Summary: This study utilizes the latest dataset to explore the impacts of nuclear energy on production-based and consumption-based CO2 emissions. The findings suggest that nuclear energy is effective in reducing production-based emissions but does not have an impact on consumption-based emissions related to international trade. Globalization tends to reduce both production-based and demand-based carbon emissions. The study also validates the Environmental Kuznets Curve for both types of CO2 emissions. Practical policy implications can be drawn from these findings regarding nuclear energy and CO2 emissions for selected countries.

Impact of energy intensity, green economy and blue economy to achieve sustainable economic growth in GCC countries: Does Saudi Vision 2030 matters to GCC countries

Suleman Sarwar

Summary: This study examines the role of energy intensity, green economic factors, and blue economic factors in achieving sustainable economic growth in Gulf countries. The findings suggest that labor and marine trade are contributing factors to economic growth in the region. Post-Vision 2030 estimations show improvements in these factors. Negative shocks in energy intensity contribute to sustainable economic growth, while positive shocks in renewable energy, grants, marine trade, and marine tourism are key factors for economic development. The study recommends that Gulf countries should focus extensively on green and blue economic factors, including reforms in research and innovation, fishery, and marine tourism sectors.

Oluwasegun B. Adekoya et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of non-renewable and renewable energy consumption on ecological footprint in net oil-importing and net oil-exporting countries. The results show that non-renewable energy consumption significantly contributes to environmental degradation in both country groups, with a greater impact observed in net oil-exporting countries. On the other hand, renewable energy consumption is found to have a significant negative impact only in net oil-importing countries, indicating the insufficient development and consumption of renewable energy in net oil-exporting countries.

Does fiscal decentralization promote green utilization of land resources? Evidence from Chinese local governments

Fangkun Xin et al.

Summary: This paper explores the relationship between fiscal decentralization, political incentives for local government leaders, and the green utilization of land resources. The findings indicate that fiscal decentralization is an effective way to enhance the green utilization of land resources. However, when local government leaders face intense promotion pressure, they prioritize short-term economic growth over environmental protection, resulting in the loss of the beneficial effect. Therefore, the study suggests devolving fiscal power while establishing lifetime accountability among local government leaders to reduce their short-termist behaviors and promote sustainable development.
