The intention-implementation gap for community involvement in urban waterways governance: a scoping review

Ethamadalage Dineth Perera et al.

Summary: Urban waterways, as part of Nature-based solutions, offer benefits for adapting to social-ecological challenges in a warming climate. The active involvement of communities in governance is seen as a way to unlock these benefits, but it is not widely practiced. A review of scholarly works reveals a lack of detailed information on the practices, risks, costs, and experiences of decision-makers regarding community involvement in urban waterways governance. The need for such evidence is urgent to facilitate wider adoption of these practices.
