Exogenous γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) mitigated salinity-induced impairments in mungbean plants by regulating their nitrogen metabolism and antioxidant potential

Abd Ullah et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effect of exogenous GABA on the growth and physiological response of mungbean plants under saline stress. The results showed that exogenous GABA improved the salinity tolerance of mungbean plants by maintaining their morpho-physiological responses and reducing the accumulation of harmful substances. This led to improved growth and biomass.

Molecular and physiological mechanisms of tea (Camellia sinensis (L.) O. Kuntze) leaf and root in response to nitrogen deficiency

Zheng-He Lin et al.

Summary: This study investigated the response of tea plants to nitrogen deficiency. It was found that nitrogen deficiency inhibited the growth of tea plants and led to changes in nitrogen metabolism and gene expression in tea leaves. The study also suggested that nitrogen deficiency might impair phosphorus metabolism in tea leaves. Furthermore, potential genes with the ability to improve the tolerance of nitrogen deficiency in tea plants were identified.

Vermicompost and biochar can alleviate cadmium stress through minimizing its uptake and optimizing biochemical properties in Berberis integerrima bunge

Esmail Khosropour et al.

Summary: Organic substrates, such as biochar and vermicompost, can reduce the accumulation of cadmium in plant tissues under Cd-contaminated soil conditions. They can enhance the growth and physiological attributes of Berberis integerrima, especially when used in combination, leading to increased chlorophyll content and relative water content.

Chemical speciation of metals from marine sediments: Assessment of potential pollution risk while dredging, a case study in southern Sweden

Laura Ferrans et al.

Summary: This study investigates the speciation of metals in sediments from Malmfjarden bay, Sweden, and assesses the potential risk of metal pollution during dredging and using dredged sediments. The results show low pollution risk for Cr, Ni, and Fe during dredging activities, and medium risk for Pb and Zn. Overall, the investigated metals in Malmfjarden sediments are found to pose low risks of spreading during beneficial uses.

Influence of different nitrogen sources on carbon and nitrogen metabolism and gene expression in tea plants (Camellia sinensis L.)

Yu Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated how different nitrogen sources regulate carbon/nitrogen metabolism in tea plants. The results showed that nitrate promoted the biosynthesis of catechins enriching the carbon pool, while ammonium supply was more conducive to nitrogen metabolism. Mixed nitrogen treatment resulted in a more balanced carbon and nitrogen metabolism in tea plants.

Agronomic performance and food safety of strawberry cultivated on a remediated sediment

Francesca Tozzi et al.

Summary: Phytoremediated marine sediment can be recycled as growing media in horticulture, with monitored strawberry cultivation showing no risks to human health and improved fruit productivity over time. This suggests the potential for reusing sediments in plant nursery production to reduce environmental impact and comply with new EU regulations on fertilizers.

Cristina Macci et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the effectiveness of landfarming process for recovering sediments at different biodegradation phases and found that it improved biological activities and reduced residual contamination. The process led to a decrease in water content, proper mineralization of organic matter and contaminants, and enhanced nutrient and enzyme ratios, making the sediments suitable for agricultural and civil applications.

Justyna Lema-Ruminska et al.

Summary: Strawberry and wild strawberry are popular horticultural crops that can be grown year-round in controlled greenhouse conditions. The study found that the 'San Andreas' cultivar of strawberry had larger leaves, higher biomass production, and better photosynthetic rates compared to the 'Ostara' cultivar. The wild strawberry cultivars, 'Regina' and 'Baron von Solemacher', also showed promising results with maintained nutritional value in greenhouse cultivation.

Impacts of Effective Microorganisms, Compost Tea, Fulvic Acid, Yeast Extract, and Foliar Spray with Seaweed Extract on Sweet Pepper Plants under Greenhouse Conditions

Mostafa H. M. Mohamed et al.

Summary: The study showed that adding yeast extract and foliar spray with seaweed extracts, as well as combining fulvic acid with seaweed extract in soil application, led to the highest plant growth and fruit quality for sweet pepper plants. The combination of yeast extract and seaweed extract resulted in the tallest plants, largest leaf area, heaviest fresh and dry weights, while fulvic acid and seaweed extract produced the highest fruit yield and fruit quality. Applications of EM, yeast extract, and seaweed extract can enhance growth, mineral levels, enzymatic activity, and nutritional value of sweet pepper fruit while reducing environmental pollution.
