Ecomindsponge: A Novel Perspective on Human Psychology and Behavior in the Ecosystem

Minh-Hoang Nguyen et al.

Summary: Modern society is faced with significant environmental issues and studying the nature-human relationship from a holistic psychosocial perspective is challenging. The ecomind sponge conceptual framework proposes a systematic approach to examine this relationship using system boundaries, selective exchange, and adaptive optimization. The subjective sphere of influence is the core mechanism, representing the limited mental representation of information received and processed based on actual interactions. Maladaptation in thinking and behavior results from the deviation of the subjective sphere from reality, including stupidity and delusion. Statistical evidence supports the properties of subjective spheres, providing a dynamic framework for environmental and psychosocial research.

A Gender Study of Food Stress and Implications for International Students Acculturation

Ruining Jin et al.

Summary: Acculturative stress is a significant issue for international students, especially when it comes to adjusting to new foods in a new environment. This study utilized the information processing approach to examine the subjective perception of dietary acculturation difficulties, focusing on the influence of social connectedness. The findings indicate that female students are more likely to perceive difficulties in adjusting to new foods, but social connectedness can lessen this effect. Additionally, no significant differences were found between domestic and international students regarding perceived difficulties of food adjustment, possibly due to the multicultural environment of the study site.

Building eco-surplus culture among urban residents as a novel strategy to improve finance for conservation in protected areas

Minh-Hoang Nguyen et al.

Summary: The declining biosphere integrity is a major concern, with global numbers of species decreasing rapidly. To address the issue, it is essential to maintain and expand effectively managed protected areas. This study found that perceptions of biodiversity loss indirectly affect willingness to pay for entrance fees and conservation through the mediation of conservation attitudes. Establishing an eco-surplus culture could be a promising approach to generate more finance from nature-based tourism for protected area conservation.

Somewhere I belong? A study on transnational identity shifts caused by double stigmatization among Chinese international student returnees during COVID-19 through the lens of mindsponge mechanism

Ruining Jin et al.

Summary: The study found that Chinese international students experienced double stigmatization during COVID-19, resulting in a shift in their transnational identity. During this period, Chinese international students prioritized individualism over traditional Chinese values. The study also confirmed the effectiveness of cost-benefit analysis in individuals' decision-making process regarding new information and values.

Introduction to Bayesian Mindsponge Framework analytics: An innovative method for social and psychological research

Minh-Hoang Nguyen et al.

Summary: This paper introduces Bayesian Mindsponge Framework (BMF) analytics, a new analytical tool for investigating socio, psychological, and behavioral phenomena. The strengths of this method come from the combination of the mindsponge mechanism's conceptual formulation power and the inferential advantages of Bayesian analysis. The paper provides a step-by-step procedure for conducting BMF-based research and elaborates on the fundamental components and functions of the mindsponge mechanism, summarizing them into five core principles.

Forest Biomass Availability and Utilization Potential in Sweden: A Review

Anuj Kumar et al.

Summary: Sweden, with only 1% of the world's commercial forest areas, provides about 10% of global trade in sawnwood and pulp and paper, showcasing a successful model of sustainable biomass utilization. The country's agricultural sector also plays a significant role in contributing to biomass availability by utilizing side streams and underutilized land for biomaterial purposes. This proactive approach towards sustainable biomass production and circular bioeconomy helps in tackling the challenges posed by climate change.

Regionalized Life Cycle Greenhouse Gas Emissions of Forest Biomass Use for Electricity Generation in the United States

Hui Xu et al.

Summary: The study found that GHG emissions from mill residues-based pathways can be 15-52% lower than those of pulpwood-based pathways, with logging residues falling in between. Furthermore, it suggests that screening bioenergy projects based on specific feedstock types alone is not sufficient, as GHG emissions of a pulpwood-based pathway in one state can be lower than those of a mill residue-based pathway in another state. The available biomass supply usually consists of several woody feedstocks, and its composition is region-dependent.
