Identification and characterization of chlorine-resistant bacteria from water distribution sites of Mumbai

Santosh Jathar et al.

Summary: Chlorination is a widely practiced method for disinfection of potable water, but some microorganisms develop resistance to chlorine. This study isolated chlorine-resistant bacteria from reservoirs in Mumbai, which not only showed resistance to chlorine but also to a broad spectrum of antibiotics, along with the ability to produce biofilms. The presence of chlorine-resistant bacteria in drinking water is concerning and requires further analysis to understand their antibiotic resistance characteristics.
