Energy Conservation Measures (ECM) and Measurement and Verification (M&V) protocols are used to reduce energy consumption and evaluate energy savings. The use of artificial intelligence algorithms can improve the accuracy and efficiency of M&V protocols. This paper proposes a comprehensive AI approach for M&V in energy-efficient infrastructure, which utilizes pre and post-ECM data to build predictive AI models for energy savings estimation. The framework is evaluated in a multi-campus tertiary education institution setting and proves to be valid for energy-efficient building infrastructure.

The Carbon Emission Characteristics and Reduction Potential in Developing Areas: Case Study from Anhui Province, China

Summary: This study analyzed the carbon emissions and carbon sinks in Anhui Province using specific carbon accounting methods and predicted future carbon emissions using the STIRPAT model. The results showed that energy consumption was the main source of carbon emissions, and there were significant differences in emissions among different industries. Analysis on Influencing Factors Decomposition and Decoupling Effect of Power Carbon Emissions in Yangtze River Economic Belt

Summary: This paper investigates the carbon emissions in the power industry of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and constructs a decoupling effort model based on the generalized divisia index method and the DPSIR framework. The study finds that the lower reaches contribute the most to power carbon emissions and there is a tendency of eastward migration of high carbon emissions. The increase in carbon emissions in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, upper, middle, and lower reaches is mainly driven by economy, output, and energy consumption scale, while carbon intensity and output carbon intensity play a key role in curbing carbon emissions. The upper reaches of the Yangtze River Economic Belt achieved decoupling of carbon emissions between 2014 and 2020.

Research on the Effects and Mechanism of Carbon Emission Trading on the Development of Green Economy in China

Can Carbon Emission Trading Policy Reduce PM2.5? Evidence from Hubei, China

Summary: China is facing severe haze pollution while its economy continues to grow rapidly. Traditional environmental regulation methods have proven to be ineffective in reducing haze pollution. This study examined the impact of the carbon emission trading pilot in Hubei Province on haze pollution using the synthetic control method. The results indicate that the pilot program resulted in a significant decrease of 10% in PM2.5 concentration over a five-year period, mainly achieved through adjustments in energy structure and increased investment in research and development.

Energy-Saving Effect of Regional Development Strategy in Western China

Summary: This study evaluates the impact of China's Western Development Strategy (WDS) on energy utilisation efficiency and investigates its internal impact mechanism. It is found that the WDS improves energy utilisation efficiency through both direct effects and indirect effects, such as accelerating the spatial agglomeration of advantage industries and enhancing technological innovation capacity, industrial structure, and human capital level. Further analysis reveals that the energy-saving effect of the WDS is significant in provinces with a smaller regional scale, less abundant resources, higher levels of performance appraisal index, and quality system.

Urban carbon emission intensity under emission trading system in a developing economy: evidence from 273 Chinese cities
