Summary: Wood is an efficient and low carbon construction material that can contribute significantly to European climate policy goals in urban areas. This study evaluates the current wood use intensity in construction and identifies the need for additional policy measures. The results show variations in wood use intensity across different countries, and the study proposes a Renewable Material Directive at the EU level and a new category for construction wood in the IPCC Guidelines.

Carbon Sequestration in Harvested Wood Products in Hungary an Estimation Based on the IPCC 2019 Refinement

Summary: This study estimates the carbon stock and CO2 emissions and removals of the Hungarian harvested wood product (HWP) pool. The results show that the carbon stock of the HWP pool is continuously increasing in Hungary, but there are also years where it becomes a source of emissions. Technological improvements are needed to achieve significant future carbon sinks in the HWP pool.
