Thiamin stimulates growth and secondary metabolites in turnip (Brassica rapa L.) leaf and root under drought stress

Munifa Jabeen et al.

Summary: Foliar application of thiamin significantly improves growth attributes, photosynthetic pigments, osmoprotectants, AsA, total phenolics, and enzymatic antioxidant activity while reducing H(2)O(2) and MDA content under drought stress conditions in turnip cultivars. Thiamin-induced growth is associated with increased levels of proline, GB, and antioxidant capacity, and decreased levels of ROS. Exogenous thiamin application can be effective in improving drought tolerance of plants.

Comparative Genomic Analysis of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia Strain W18 Reveals Its Adaptative Genomic Features for Degrading Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons

Yaqian Xiao et al.

Summary: Stenotrophomonas maltophilia strains exhibit enhanced gene functions related to energy metabolism, amino acid metabolism, xenobiotic biodegradation, and folding, sorting, and degradation in environmental isolates. The core genome of the 44 S. maltophilia strains is stable, allowing for predicting the genomic adaptive features of other PAH-degrading strains within this species. Accessory genes encoding alcohol dehydrogenase are upregulated and may enhance PAH metabolization potential through horizontal gene transfer.

Biochemical and Metabolic Plant Responses toward Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons and Heavy Metals Present in Atmospheric Pollution

Lazaro Molina et al.

Summary: Heavy metals and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are toxic components of atmospheric particles that induce a wide variety of responses in plants. Detoxification processes in plants involve accumulation of contaminants in vacuoles or cell walls, while the presence of contaminants lead to the production of reactive oxygen species, resulting in different outcomes in plants.

Phytotoxicity of petroleum hydrocarbons: Sources, impacts and remediation strategies

Fasih Ullah Haider et al.

Summary: The extraction and exploration of petroleum hydrocarbons are causing significant harm to the ecosystem, particularly soil and plants. PHs reduce seed germination, disrupt plant metabolic activity, and ultimately decrease crop yield. Various remediation techniques such as organic manure, compost, and phytoremediation can help mitigate PHs contamination and improve plant growth.

Genome Annotation of Poly(lactic acid) Degrading Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Sphingobacterium sp. and Geobacillus sp.

Sadia Mehmood Satti et al.

Summary: The genomes of Pseudomonas aeruginosa S3, Sphingobacterium S2, and Geobacillus EC-3, isolated from compost, were annotated to understand their ability to degrade poly(lactic acid) (PLA). The draft genomes revealed catabolic genes for biodegradation of xenobiotics, aromatic compounds, and lactic acid, as well as genes related to biofilm formation and regulation. These isolates possess essential genetic elements for PLA metabolism at both mesophilic and thermophilic temperatures.
