Last chance to travel or safety first? The influence of exposure to natural hazards and coping capacities on tourism consumption

Summary: This study examines the influence of exposure to natural hazards and coping capacities on domestic, outbound, and total tourism spending using a global dataset of 145 economies from 2011 to 2019. On the other hand, coping capacities have U-shaped relationships with domestic and total tourism spending, with an inverted U-shaped relationship with outbound spending. The analyses also reveal heteroscedasticity among income groups and regions.

Summary: Selecting the appropriate academic journal is crucial for researchers to publish their manuscripts. In this study, the researchers used the Latent Dirichlet Allocation algorithm and other text-mining techniques to identify the main research topics in the abstracts of 20,381 articles from 12 leading Tourism and Hospitality journals. A quantitative measure of the fit between the research topics and each journal was provided based on their frequency of occurrence. The results indicated that the importance of the topic-journal fit depended on the variance of the fits among the journals.

Findings suggest that while some guides exhibit sustainability practices, it is not a major focus of the trips, with elements of ambivalence and ambiguity present. The significant moderating role of ascribed responsibility was found in the relationship between global life satisfaction and long-term re-participation intentions in volunteer tourism.
