Identifying structural-functional analogue of GRL0617, the only well-established inhibitor for papain-like protease (PLpro) of SARS-CoV2 from the pool of fungal metabolites using docking and molecular dynamics simulation

Priyashi Rao et al.

Summary: The non-structural protein (nsp)-3 of SARS-CoV2, also known as papain-like protease (PLpro), is considered as an essential target protein for inhibiting the replication of the virus. Studies have identified GRL0617 and Fonsecin as potent inhibitors for PLpro, which may help in boosting the immune response.

Meticulous assessment of natural compounds from NPASS database for identifying analogue of GRL0617, the only known inhibitor for SARS-CoV2 papain-like protease (PLpro) using rigorous computational workflow

Paritosh Parmar et al.

Summary: A new potential inhibitor of SARS-CoV2 PLpro, Caesalpiniaphenol A, was identified through high throughput virtual screening from a natural product library. This compound possesses a double ring aromatic moiety and exhibits lower binding energy compared to the existing control inhibitor, GRL0617.

Discovery of Rift Valley fever virus natural pan-inhibitors by targeting its multiple key proteins through computational approaches

Israr Fatima et al.

Summary: In this study, a virtual screening of over 6000 phytochemicals with known antiviral activities against conserved RVFV proteins was conducted. Five potential pan-inhibitors of RVFV replication were identified, which may contribute to the development of effective drugs against RVFV infection.

In Vitro Evaluation of Anti-Rift Valley Fever Virus, Antioxidant and Anti-Inflammatory Activity of South African Medicinal Plant Extracts

Garland K. More et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the antiviral, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory activity of twenty medicinal plant extracts against Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV). Eight out of the twenty extracts showed significant potency against RVFV, with most extracts exhibiting high cytotoxicity inhibitory concentrations values (IC50 > 200 μg/mL). The extracts also demonstrated antioxidant activity and anti-inflammatory effects, scavenging free radicals and suppressing the production of pro-inflammatory mediators in Vero cells.

Distribution and Molecular Identification of Culex pipiens and Culex tritaeniorhynchus as Potential Vectors of Rift Valley Fever Virus in Jazan, Saudi Arabia

Saleh Eifan et al.

Summary: The study assessed the composition, abundance, distribution of different mosquito vectors, and presence of the Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV) in various areas of the Jazan region. The relative abundance of Culex pipiens and Culex tritaeniorhynchus varied significantly across different districts, with both species showing close relationships with mosquitoes from Kenya and Turkey. All mosquito samples tested negative for RVFV, indicating a low current risk of RVFV re-emergence in the region.
