Difunctional NH 2-modified MOF supporting plentiful ion channels and stable LiF-rich SEI construction via organocatalysis for all-solid-state lithium metal batteries

Xuanyi Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, Zeolitic Imidazolate Frameworks (ZIFs) modified by two different functional groups (-NH 2 and - CH 3 ) were used as the fillers of polyethylene oxide (PEO) composite solid electrolytes to explore the catalytic effect of groups on LiF generation. The PEO-ZIF-NH 2 with LiF-rich solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) exhibited enhanced cycling performance compared to PEO-ZIF-CH 3 . First-principles calculation revealed that ZIFs-NH 2 made the C-F bond in TFSI- longer, leading to easier breakage and promoted LiF formation. This simple design idea of using organic catalysis provides a new aspect for preparing high-performance lithium metal batteries.

Poly(ionic liquid)-functionalized graphene oxide towards ambient temperature operation of all-solid-state PEO-based polymer electrolyte lithium metal batteries

Wei Bao et al.

Summary: To develop next generation all-solid-state lithium metal batteries, it is important to have polyethylene oxide (PEO)-based electrolyte with low crystallinity and high Li+ transport channels. This study proposes a new type of oxyethyl containing poly(ionic liquid) modified graphene oxide nanoparticles (ox-PIL@GO) for preparing PEO based organic-inorganic composite electrolyte membranes (CPEs). Experimental and simulation results show that ox-PIL@GO can enhance LiTFSI dissociation and inhibit TFSI- movement, resulting in improved lithium transference number and reduced crystallinity of PEO, leading to high ionic conductivity and cycling performance.

Ameliorating the interfacial issues of all-solid-state lithium metal batteries by constructing polymer/inorganic composite electrolyte

Su Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, an easy-to-construct polymer/inorganic composite solid-state electrolyte (CSSE) was developed by integrating LLZO ceramics into PEO to inhibit the growth of Li dendrites and widen the electrochemical stability window. The designed PLL-CSSE showed outstanding cycling performance and high Coulombic efficiency in LiFePO4-Li cell, with a capacity retention of 82.4% after 200 cycles when combined with NCM622 cathode. The uniform dispersion of LLZO in PEO matrix was responsible for the improved electrochemical performance, indicating a promising pathway for the development of high energy density all-solid-state lithium batteries.
