Yuchen Yang et al.

Summary: Based on microwave photonics theory, we propose a new scheme using dual-parallel Mach-Zehnder modulator for measuring Doppler frequency shift in a radar system. The scheme has the advantages of wide operating frequency range, simple structure, low cost, and easy integration.

Photonic System for Simultaneous and Unambiguous Measurement of Angle-of-Arrival and Doppler-Frequency-Shift

Guangyi Li et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a photonic system based on a two-channel structure to achieve the simultaneous measurement of angle-of-arrival (AOA) and Doppler-frequency-shift (DFS) of microwave signals without direction ambiguity. The unambiguous AOA measurement is obtained by recording the power of the output intermediate frequency (IF) and radio frequency (RF) signals from two channels. The DFS can be determined from the frequency of the IF signal. Experimental results demonstrate a -66.44 degrees to 66.44 degrees AOA measurement with errors less than +/- 2.2 degrees, and an unambiguous DFS measurement with errors of +/- 0.6 Hz.

A Photonic Approach for Doppler-Frequency-Shift and Angle-of-Arrival Measurement Without Direction Ambiguity

Hao Zhuo et al.

Summary: A dual channel system based on a dual-parallel Mach-Zehnder modulator is proposed for simultaneous measurement of angle of arrival and Doppler frequency shift. By measuring the power of the beating signal of the two channels, the system can accurately measure the angle of arrival with low phase measurement error and determine the direction of the Doppler frequency shift. The system provides a simple and effective solution for modern radar and electronic warfare receiver applications.
