Epidemiologic Trends in Fatal and Nonfatal Firearm Injuries in the US, 2009-2017

Summary: In the United States, research on firearm injuries has primarily focused on fatal injuries, while nonfatal firearm injuries remain less understood. A cross-sectional, ecologic study conducted from 2009 to 2017 found that suicide is the most common cause of firearm injury death in the US, with most people who die from suicide never reaching the hospital. Results suggest that assaults and unintentional injuries are the main sources of nonfatal and overall firearm injuries.

Stepped Collaborative Care Targeting Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Symptoms and Comorbidity for US Trauma Care Systems A Randomized Clinical Trial

Community gun violence and functional disability: An ecological analysis among men in four US cities

There is a wide range of biological and cognitive factors that have been shown to predict PTSD, suggesting that a broader set of potential strategies could be explored to mitigate PTSD. A flexible and tailored approach needs to be investigated to evaluate more effective early intervention strategies, as different trajectories of stress response and acute predictors of PTSD exist.
