Coulomb and Higgs branches from canonical singularities. Part I. Hypersurfaces with smooth Calabi-Yau resolutions

Cyril Closset et al.

Summary: The paper explores the physics of superconformal field theories arising from isolated hypersurface singularities. It focuses on canonical isolated hypersurface singularities that allow for smooth crepant resolutions. The 5d and 4d physics of these singularities are discussed, and their 3d reduction and mirrors are determined in many cases. The paper also provides a Mathematica code to compute key quantities for any canonical isolated hypersurface singularity.

More on N=2 S-folds

Simone Giacomelli et al.

Summary: The systematic study explores the 4d N = 2 preserving S-folds of F-theory 7-branes and the worldvolume theories on D3-branes probing them, identifying two infinite series of theories denoted as S-G,l((r)) and T-G,l((r)). The distinction lies in the discrete torsion carried by the S-fold and in the difference in the asymptotic holonomy of the gauge bundle on the 7-brane, with various properties being explored using diverse field theoretical and string theoretical methods.

Coulomb and Higgs branches from canonical singularities. Part 0

Cyril Closset et al.

Summary: This paper mainly discusses the five-dimensional and four-dimensional superconformal field theories arising from canonical threefold singularities in M-theory and Type IIB string theory. It studies their Coulomb and Higgs branches, and proposes a relation between the resulting moduli spaces through compactification, mirror symmetry, and gauging. By applying this framework, it determines the Higgs branches of some 5d SCFTs and their magnetic quivers. Finally, it also computes the higher-form symmetries of the 4d and 5d SCFTs.

4d N=2 SCFTs and lisse W-algebras

Dan Xie et al.

Summary: In this paper, we explore the relationship between 2d lisse W-algebras and their 4d N = 2 SCFT partners, focusing on theories without Higgs branches leading to lisse W-algebras. A new class of non-admissible lisse W-algebras is predicted, shedding light on the understanding of Higgs branches in N = 2 SCFTs.

Schur sector of Argyres-Douglas theory and W-algebra

Dan Xie et al.

Summary: This study examines the Schur index, the Zhu's C-2 algebra, and the Macdonald index of four-dimensional N = 2 Argyres-Douglas theories by analyzing the structure of the associated two-dimensional W-algebra. The Schur index is derived from the vacuum character of the W-algebra, the Zhu's C-2 algebra is found to be related to the Schur sector and the Jacobi algebra of a hypersurface singularity, and the Macdonald index is calculated based on the Kazhdan filtration of the W-algebra.

New rank-2 Argyres-Douglas theory

Justin Kaidi et al.

Summary: The study provides evidence for a new strongly-coupled four-dimensional N = 2 superconformal field theory, which appears as a nontrivial IR fixed point on the Coulomb branch of a mass-deformed superconformal Lagrangian theory with gauge group G(2) and four fundamental hypermultiplets. The analysis is based on various geometric constraints to bootstrap the theory data without explicit reference to the Seiberg-Witten curve. Additionally, a conjecture for a corresponding vertex operator algebra is proposed, along with verification that the vacuum character satisfies a fourth-order linear modular differential equation, and an identification with existing Class S constructions is suggested.

5d and 4d SCFTs: canonical singularities, trinions and S-dualities

Cyril Closset et al.

Summary: Canonical hypersurface singularities in M-theory and Type IIB string theory lead to 5d and 4d superconformal field theories (SCFTs), respectively. This paper focuses on a specific class of 'trinion' singularities in Type IIB, which give rise to 4d N = 2 SCFTs known as Dpb(G)-trinions. Reducing these 4d and 5d SCFTs to 3d N = 4 theories helps determine their electric and magnetic quivers.

Chiral algebra of the Argyres-Douglas theory from M5 branes

Dan Xie et al.

Summary: We study chiral algebras associated with Argyres-Douglas theories engineered from M5 branes. Depending on the type of singularities present, the chiral algebra for these theories can be either the minimal model of W algebra of J type or the affine Kac-Moody algebra of J type. By computing the vacua character of the corresponding chiral algebra, we can obtain the Schur index of these theories.
