Eikonal approximation in celestial CFT

Leonardo Pipolo de Gioia et al.

Summary: We identify an eikonal regime in celestial CFT2 where massless 2-2 scattering is dominated by t-channel exchange. We derive a formula that resums exchanges of arbitrary integer spin to all orders in the coupling. The resulting eikonal phase resembles that in flat space with energy powers replaced by weight-shifting operators on the celestial sphere. We independently compute the celestial two-point function for a scalar in a shockwave background and find agreement with the prediction from the celestial eikonal formula for graviton exchange to leading order in the gravitational coupling.

1/L2 corrected soft photon theorem from a CFT3 Ward identity

Nabamita Banerjee et al.

Summary: In this paper, the researchers investigate the corrections to the soft photon and soft graviton factors in AdS(4) spacetimes. They find that the 1/L-2 corrected soft photon theorem can be derived from the large N CFT3 Ward identity.

Integrable field theories and their CCFT duals

Daniel Kapec et al.

Summary: We compute the Mellin transforms of various two-dimensional integrable S-matrices, providing the first explicit, non-perturbative realizations of celestial CFT. In two dimensions, the Mellin transform is simply the Fourier transform in rapidity space, and the celestial correlator has no position dependence. The simplified setting allows us to study the analytic properties of CCFT correlators exactly as a function of the conformal dimensions. We find that the correlators exist as real distributions of the conformal weights, with asymptotics controlled by the mass spectrum and three-point couplings of the model. Coupling these models to a flat space limit of JT gravity preserves integrability and dresses the amplitudes by a rapidly varying gravitational phase. We find that the coupling to gravity smooths out certain singular aspects of the Mellin-transformed correlators.

Finite S matrix

Holmfridur Hannesdottir et al.

Summary: This article investigates the problem that the traditional scattering matrix (S matrix) does not exist for massless particles, as it lacks a rigorous nonperturbative definition and has infrared divergences in its perturbative expansion. The difficulty arises from the inability to isolate single-particle states at asymptotic times. However, nonseparable interactions in gauge theories are often universal, allowing for factorization and independent asymptotic evolution from hard scattering. By utilizing this factorization property, a finite hard S matrix, SH, is defined by replacing the free Hamiltonian with a soft-collinear asymptotic Hamiltonian. The elements of SH are gauge invariant and infrared finite, and they exist even in conformal field theories. The elements of SH can be interpreted alternatively as elements of the traditional S matrix between dressed states, Wilson coefficients, or remainder functions, providing different insights into the rich structure of SH.

Celestial amplitude for 2d theory

Sarthak Duary

Summary: In this paper, we investigate the celestial amplitude corresponding to the 2d bulk S-matrix. We demonstrate the Fourier transform relationship between the celestial amplitude and the 2d S-matrix in the rapidity variable, and translate the crossing and unitarity conditions into the conditions on the celestial amplitude. By studying the 2d Sinh-Gordon model, we perturbatively calculate the celestial amplitude and confirm its satisfaction of the crossing and unitarity conditions. However, we find that there is an additional term that cannot be determined by these conditions, indicating the insufficiency of using the bootstrap idea for the celestial amplitude. We also explore the gravitational dressing condition in 2d quantum field theory and observe the erasure of poles on the right half-plane in the gravitationally dressed celestial amplitude for various ansatzes.

A scattering amplitude for massive particles in AdS

Abhijit Gadde et al.

Summary: In this paper, we propose a conformally covariant momentum space representation called the AdS S-matrix for CFT correlation functions. It reduces to the S-matrix in the flat space limit. We provide Feynman-like rules to compute the AdS S-matrix in 1/R perturbation theory and relate it to the Mellin space representation of the conformal correlators in 1/R perturbation theory.

Infrared finite scattering theory in quantum field theory and quantum gravity

Kartik Prabhu et al.

Summary: Infrared divergences are known to arise in scattering theory with massless fields, and they are manifestations of the memory effect. States with memory cannot be represented in the standard Fock space, and infrared divergences are artifacts of trying to represent these states. If only quantities relevant to collider physics are considered, infrared divergences can be dealt with by imposing an infrared cutoff. However, this approach is unsatisfactory when treating memory as a quantum observable and for viewing the S-matrix as a fundamental quantity in QFT and quantum gravity. A well-defined S-matrix requires the definition of in and out Hilbert spaces that incorporate memory satisfactorily.

Shadows and soft exchange in celestial CFT

Daniel Kapec et al.

Summary: This study investigates the exponentiated soft exchange in gauge and gravitational theories using the celestial conformal field theory formalism. It is found that these models exhibit spontaneously broken asymptotic symmetries and the effective dynamics of the associated Goldstone edge mode is d-dimensional. The introduction of an infrared regulator explicitly breaks these symmetries, resulting in a d-dimensional pseudo-Goldstone boson for the regulated theory. The study shows that symmetry principles are sufficient to calculate soft exchange in gauge theory and gravity, reproducing the Abelian infrared divergences and soft theorems in various dimensions.

Bounds on Regge growth of flat space scattering from bounds on chaos

Deeksha Chandorkar et al.

Summary: The study focuses on four-point functions in a conformal field theory and demonstrates the influence of S matrix growth on the Regge scaling of correlators in causal scattering configurations. It shows that the Regge scaling on the causally scattering sheet is governed by the same power as in the standard Regge configuration, constrained by the chaos bound.

Charge algebra in Al(A)dSn spacetimes

Adrien Fiorucci et al.

Summary: The gravitational charge algebra of generic asymptotically locally (A)dS spacetimes is derived in n dimensions without further boundary conditions, resulting in finite expressions after removing divergences using holographic renormalization procedure. The charges associated with boundary diffeomorphisms are generally non-vanishing, non-integrable, and not conserved, while those associated with boundary Weyl rescalings are non-vanishing only in odd dimensions, with a field-dependent 2-cocycle present. The analysis is specialized to different boundary conditions, such as Dirichlet boundary conditions and leaky boundary conditions, leading to various results such as the Brown-Henneaux central extension and the Lambda-BMS asymptotic symmetry group. In the flat limit, the asymptotic symmetry group contracts to the BMS group in n dimensions.
