Mapping the electromagnetic fields of heavy-ion collisions with the Breit-Wheeler process

J. D. Brandenburg et al.

Summary: Ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions are expected to produce the strongest electromagnetic fields in the known Universe, which can be studied via measurement of the Breit-Wheeler process to provide information about the strength and spatial distribution of the colliding fields. Recently, it has been shown that even heavy-ion collisions with hadronic overlap can interact with photons from these fields, offering a purely electromagnetic probe of the produced medium.

Centrality dependence of dilepton production via gamma gamma processes from Wigner distributions of photons in nuclei

Mariola Klusek-Gawenda et al.

Summary: A new complete method based on the Wigner distributions of photons is proposed for calculating differential distributions of dileptons created via photon-photon fusion in semicentral AA collisions. The calculated results show very good agreement with recent experimental data from STAR, ALICE, and ATLAS without the need for free parameters or additional mechanisms.

Discovery of higher-order quantum electrodynamics effect for the vacuum pair production

W. Zha et al.

Summary: This paper demonstrates the discovery of higher-order effect for QED pair production by comparing global data, settling debates that have persisted for decades. This verification is a crucial milestone in advancing towards the nonperturbative and nonlinear regime of QED vacuum.

Lepton pair production in ultraperipheral collisions

Ren-jie Wang et al.

Summary: Lepton pair production in ultraperipheral collisions is studied in the classical field approximation, deriving a general form of the cross section based on photon distributions. The results connect with the transverse momentum dependent distribution factorization formalism in the Born approximation, showing consistency with current experimental data.
