Robust Formation Control and Obstacle Avoidance for Heterogeneous Underactuated Surface Vessel Networks

Bo Wang et al.

Summary: This article investigates the problems of distributed robust formation control and distributed obstacle avoidance for heterogeneous underactuated surface vessel networks without global position measurements. A structured reduced-order error dynamics is developed for group cooperation by exploiting the cascaded structure of the kinematics and dynamics of generic vessel models. A distributed robust formation control scheme is proposed without requiring global position measurements, where agents in the network may have completely different dynamic models, by incorporating graph theory, the supertwisting control technique, and persistence of excitation concept. It is demonstrated that the stabilization of the reduced-order error dynamics guarantees the stability of the entire vessel error system subject to modeling uncertainties and bounded disturbances.
