Exploiting bi-modulated magnetic field and drive current modulation to achieve high-sensitivity Hall measurements on thermoelectric samples

G. Parada et al.

Summary: Hall mobility measurements of samples with high carrier density are challenging, but can be improved by modulating the magnetic field or drive current. In this study, a bi-modulation method combining magnetic field modulation and alternating polarity drive current significantly reduced noise and proved to be effective for measuring materials with high carrier density.

Electrical spectroscopy methods for the characterization of defects in thin-film compound solar cells

M. Igalson et al.

Summary: The electronic activity of defects and their impact on solar cell efficiency in Cu(In,Ga)Se-2 and CdTe materials is still a topic of interest and debate. This study discusses the results of electrical defect spectroscopy in these materials and proposes charged grain boundaries as a possible source for observed signatures in deep level spectra. It suggests using electrical nano-characterization methods combined with standard defect spectroscopy to unravel the role and origin of dominating defects.

Physicochemical and magnetic properties of functionalized lanthanide oxides with enhanced hydrophobicity

Joanna Kujawa et al.

Summary: A highly efficient method was developed to produce highly hydrophobic and super-hydrophobic materials with tunable adhesive properties and fractal-like structures. By chemically modifying lanthanide oxide powders, materials with thermally stable nanolayer were successfully generated. The surfaces functionalized with specific silanes showed very low adhesion and polar surface free energy, leading to immediate bouncing of water droplets upon contact.

Transient Metastable Behaviour in Highly Efficient MZO/CdSeTe/CdTe Thin Film Solar Cells

Mustafa Togay et al.

Summary: Metastability effects were studied in high efficiency MZO/CdSeTe/CdTe solar cells, with different preconditioning procedures temporarily recovering device performance. However, this recovery lasted only 3 days under vacuum in the dark. Temperature dependent J-V and capacitance measurements revealed recombination centers and defect levels at the MZO/absorber interface. Previous studies have shown MZO degradation when exposed to atmosphere, while Hall effect measurements on MZO films showed no significant changes after preconditioning or CdCl2 treatment.
