A Novel Measure of Cardiopulmonary Coupling During Sleep Based on the Synchrosqueezing Transform Algorithm

Yining Wang et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel method that integrates the synchrosqueezing transform (SST) algorithm with the standard cardiopulmonary coupling (CPC) method to quantify cardiopulmonary dynamics for automatic sleep apnea detection. The simulation results showed that the SST-CPC method is robust to both noise level and signal bandwidth, outperforming Fourier-based and Wavelet-based approaches. By integrating SST-CPC features with common-used heart rate and respiratory features, accuracies for per-minute apnea detection improved from 72% to 83%.

Cross-validated Adaboost Classification of Emotion Regulation Strategies Identified by Spectral Coherence in Resting-State

Serap Aydin

Summary: In this study, the quantitative relationship between Cognitive Emotion Regulation strategies (CERs) and EEG synchronization levels is explored for the first time, revealing a strong association between CERs and associative memory functions and cognition. The findings suggest a close correlation between neuroplasticity and cognitive skills. High classification accuracies were obtained using cross-validated adaboost classifiers based on full-band COH estimations.

Classification of Contrasting Discrete Emotional States Indicated by EEG Based Graph Theoretical Network Measures

Berke Kilic et al.

Summary: This study reveals a strong association between emotional arousal and neuro-functional brain connectivity measures. By classifying discrete emotional states and analyzing brain connectivity measures at different thresholds, the study finds that higher classification accuracies are achieved when using integration measures with specific thresholds and segment lengths.

Frequency Nesting Interactions in the Subthalamic Nucleus Correlate With the Step Phases for Parkinson's Disease

Luyao Jin et al.

Summary: Sound stimulation can improve gait disturbance in Parkinson's disease patients. The study found that the interaction between different frequencies in the basal ganglia is related to gait problems. The masking phase-amplitude coupling method is an effective way to explore this interaction. The results show that sound stimulation can suppress this interaction and improve gait problems.

Investigating Variational Phase-Amplitude Coupling in EEG-based Emotion Recognition

Chuting Zhang et al.

Summary: The novel framework variational phase-amplitude coupling was proposed for emotion recognition, utilizing the variational mode decomposition method for reliability and nonlinear adaptation. The modulation indexes tended to be driven by the delta/theta phase, highlighting the importance of theta phase in emotion processing. Additionally, activity in the AF brain area may serve as a potential feature for neutral emotion, while beta rhythm is associated with negative emotion, and bipolar synchronizations move towards central lobe with increasing amplitude frequencies.
