Transcript variants of long-chain acyl-CoA synthase 1 have distinct roles in sheep lipid metabolism

Yang Cao et al.

Summary: Mutton is favored by consumers, and the level of intermuscular fat is crucial for meat tenderness. The ACSL1 gene plays a vital role in triglyceride synthesis in sheep. Two transcripts, ACSL1-a and ACSL1-b, were identified, with ACSL1-a promoting intracellular diglyceride synthesis and ACSL1-b promoting triglyceride synthesis. Inhibiting ACSL1 gene led to a significant decrease in triglyceride content, which has implications for sheep breeding.
