Gut microbiome partially mediates and coordinates the effects of genetics on anxiety-like behavior in Collaborative Cross mice

X. Jin et al.

Summary: This study used a mouse model to investigate the relationship between anxiety behavior, host genetic factors, and gut microbiome composition. Through GWAS and microbiome composition analysis, genes related to anxiety and depression were identified, along with differences in microbiome composition between high and low anxiety mice. The findings suggest that the gut microbiome partially mediates and coordinates the effects of genetics on anxiety.

The autistic-like behaviors development during weaning and sexual maturation in VPA-induced autistic-like rats is accompanied by gut microbiota dysbiosis

Qingmin Kong et al.

Summary: Research on gut microbiota in autism has predominantly focused on children, with limited understanding of the dynamic changes from weaning to adulthood. This study tracked autistic-like rats induced by VPA from weaning to sexual maturation, revealing significant developmental disorders and differences in gut microbiota between autistic-like and healthy rats. While the microbiota and SCFAs related to autism were influenced by age and diet, some correlations remained consistent regardless of these factors, suggesting their potential role in the development of autistic-like behaviors.

Benchmark of 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing using Japanese gut microbiome data from the V1-V2 and V3-V4 primer sets

Shoichiro Kameoka et al.

Summary: The study compared 192 Japanese volunteers' fecal 16S analysis data using modified V1-V2 and standard V3-V4 primers. Results showed that the bacterial composition derived from the V34 region might differ from the actual abundance, suggesting that the modified V12 primer set is more desirable for analyzing the Japanese gut microbiota.

Identification and engraftment of new bacterial strains by shotgun metagenomic sequence analysis in patients with recurrent Clostridioides difficile infection before and after fecal microbiota transplantation and in healthy human subjects

Sandeep Verma et al.

Summary: The study found that in patients with RCDI, there was a marked reduction in the number of specific bacterial strains, especially from the phylum Firmicutes, and an increase in pathogenic bacterial strains, such as Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Klebsiella pneumoniae. However, bacterial strains from healthy donors successfully engrafted in the patients' intestines after FMT, leading to complete resolution of clinical symptoms and bacterial dysbiosis.

Charles M. Bridges et al.

Summary: Dysgonomonas species are facultative heterotrophs that can be found in diverse environments, including the hindgut of the lower termite Reticulitermes flavipes. Their genomes are enriched for genes involved in oligo- and polysaccharide utilization, allowing them to modify a wide range of complex glycans.
