Incorporation of zinc into cetylpyridinium chloride mouthwash affects the composition of multispecies biofilms

Willy Bustillos Torrez et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effectiveness of a mouthwash containing 0.075% cetylpyridinium chloride and 0.28% zinc lactate in controlling a multispecies biofilm. The mouthwash reduced metabolic activity and counts of various harmful bacteria, but did not interfere with beneficial bacteria in relation to the control group. The treatment was effective in controlling periodontal pathogens and promoting health-associated bacterial colonization in the biofilm.

Aloe vera mouthwashes can be a natural alternative to chemically formulated ones-A randomized-controlled trial

Naina Pattnaik et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the antiplaque and antibacterial efficacy of commercially available mouthwashes containing aloe vera, hydrogen peroxide, and cetylpyridinium chloride. The results showed that the mouthwash containing aloe vera had similar efficacy to cetylpyridinium chloride and was significantly better than the mouthwash containing hydrogen peroxide. These findings suggest that aloe vera mouthwash can serve as a natural alternative to chemically formulated mouthwashes.

The effect of Brazilian propolis type-3 against oral microbiota and volatile sulfur compounds in subjects with morning breath malodor

Marcelo de Faveri et al.

Summary: The study concluded that using 3% propolis type-3 mouthrinse is effective in reducing the concentration of VSCs in the breath and decreasing the abundance of halitosis-related bacteria on the tongue dorsum. This suggests that propolis may be a promising agent for the treatment of bad breath.

Effect of Propolis mouthwash on clinical periodontal parameters in patients with gingivitis: A double-blinded randomized clinical trial

Sima Kiani et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the clinical efficacy of propolis-containing mouthwash in treating gingivitis. The results showed that the propolis group had a significantly greater reduction in gingival bleeding index compared to the placebo group, while there was no significant difference in plaque index change. Propolis mouthwash can effectively alleviate gingival inflammation and bleeding without causing tooth discoloration or staining.

Valorization of Aloe vera Skin By-Products to Obtain Bioactive Compounds by Microwave-Assisted Extraction: Antioxidant Activity and Chemical Composition

Ignacio Solaberrieta et al.

Summary: Aloe vera skin (AVS) is a valuable source of bioactive compounds, and microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) was optimized in this study using response surface methodology. The optimal extraction conditions were determined, resulting in extracts with high polyphenol content and antioxidant activity. Major phenolic compounds were identified, and the structural and thermal properties of AVS were investigated.

Effects of green tea extract epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) on oral disease-associated microbes: a review

Chen Kong et al.

Summary: Oral diseases, such as caries, periodontitis, and mucosal diseases, have always affected human health. The complex microbiota present in the mouth can cause chronic infections, some of which can lead to acute and systemic diseases. In order to prevent and treat these diseases, the development of new antimicrobial drugs, such as EGCG found in green tea, is important. EGCG has been shown to have antibacterial effects against various oral disease-associated organisms and may provide new medication strategies for the prevention and treatment of oral infectious diseases.
