Identification of tissue-specific microbial profile of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma by full-length 16S rDNA sequencing

Summary: This study found differences in microbial community structure between esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) and adjacent non-tumor tissues, with Streptococcus and Labrys being the main bacteria in tumor and non-tumor tissues, respectively. The complexity of microbial interactions in tumor tissues was weaker compared to non-tumor tissues, and there were statistically significant differences in the relative abundance of 24 taxa between tumor and non-tumor tissues. Furthermore, the lipopolysaccharide biosynthesis and biotin metabolism in the microbiome of cancer tissues were found to be more significant.

Characteristics and interplay of esophageal microbiota in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma
