Mechanical Allodynia Circuitry in the Dorsal Horn Is Defined by the Nature of the Injury

Cedric Peirs et al.

Summary: Mechanical allodynia in the spinal dorsal horn is conveyed by different neural circuits depending on the nature of the injury, such as inflammatory or neuropathic. Calretinin neurons and protein kinase C gamma neurons play distinct roles in conveying mechanical allodynia in different locations within the dorsal horn. Cholecystokinin neurons located deeper in the dorsal horn are important for both types of injuries.

A Functional Topographic Map for Spinal Sensorimotor Reflexes

Graziana Gatto et al.

Summary: This study investigates the role of eight classes of excitatory interneurons in the dorsal horn in sensorimotor reflexes, revealing spatially restricted excitatory modules and the differential recruitment of interneurons in driving various sensorimotor behaviors.

Neuron-specific spinal cord translatomes reveal a neuropeptide code for mouse dorsal horn excitatory neurons

Summary: The study revealed that excitatory and inhibitory neurons in the spinal dorsal horn are not only distinguished by gene expression, but also show differential engagement in neuromodulator pathways, especially neuropeptides.

Spinally projecting noradrenergic neurons of the locus coeruleus display resistance to AAV2retro-mediated transduction

Robert P. Ganley et al.

Summary: AAV2retro serotype vectors show resistance in transducing neurons projecting from the locus coeruleus (LC) to the spinal dorsal horn. However, using AAV2retro.eGFP.cre can increase the sensitivity for transduction of this projection, leading to a higher proportion of targeted neurons expressing tyrosine hydroxylase (TH). This has implications for the study of noradrenaline-containing projections and other types of projection neurons in the central nervous system.
