The POR rs10954732 polymorphism decreases susceptibility to hepatocellular carcinoma and hepsin as a prognostic biomarker correlated with immune infiltration based on proteomics

Yan Fang et al.

Summary: The POR rs10954732 (G > A) polymorphism is associated with decreased susceptibility and improved prognosis for HCC. A allele carriers show lower susceptibility by 69% and extended overall survival by 199%. Differentially expressed proteins related to the A allele are mainly involved in neutrophil and T cell activation, impacting immune and inflammatory responses.

Gaseous air pollutants and DNA methylation in a methylome-wide association study of an ethnically and environmentally diverse population of US adults

Katelyn M. Holliday et al.

Summary: This study investigates the association between air pollutants and DNA methylation using data from the Women's Health Initiative and Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities cohorts. The results suggest that certain CpG sites near genes relevant for cardiovascular and lung disease may be susceptible to changes in DNA methylation induced by gaseous air pollution. However, replication studies did not fully reproduce these findings.

Epigenome-wide association study of diet quality in the Women's Health Initiative and TwinsUK cohort

Whitney L. Do et al.

Summary: Diet quality was significantly associated with differential DNA methylation at 428 CpG sites in the discovery cohort, with 24 CpG sites showing consistent replication in the TwinsUK cohort. These findings suggest potential pathways through which diet quality may influence chronic disease.

A 6-CpG validated methylation risk score model for metabolic syndrome: The HyperGEN and GOLDN studies

Bertha A. Hidalgo et al.

Summary: The study aimed to develop a methylation risk score (MRS) for MetS and demonstrated its effectiveness in predicting the condition in different race groups. Results showed that MRS was significantly associated with MetS in both African American and European American populations, suggesting its potential use in examining metabolic disease risk across different race/ethnic groups.
