Clinical adaptation of synthetic MRI-based whole brain volume segmentation in children at 3 T: comparison with modified SPM segmentation methods

Summary: The study validated the use of synthetic magnetic resonance imaging (SyMRI) volumetry in pediatric neuroimaging by comparing it with child-optimized SPM 12 volumetry. SynMRI and SPM segmentation results were consistent, except for CSFV, which needs cautious interpretation. Volume differences between SyMRI and SPM were influenced by age and individual brain tissue volume.

Summary: Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus patients can exhibit a reduction in striatal dopamine reuptake transporter binding, which correlates with the severity of parkinsonism but not with features of ventriculomegaly or white matter changes. Unlike Parkinson's disease, this dopaminergic deficit in idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus is more symmetric and prominent in the caudate nucleus.
