Summary: This study investigates the effects of shell structure and composition on photoluminescence properties of quantum dots. It discovers that gradient shells can effectively suppress nonradiative Auger recombination and improve the luminescence of the dots. Single-dot measurements show that gradient shells reduce spectral diffusion and enhance the energy barrier for charge trapping.

High-Performance Blue Quantum-Dot Light-Emitting Diodes by Alleviating Electron Trapping

Fangfang Wang et al.

Summary: Currently, the performance of blue quantum-dot light-emitting diodes (QLEDs) is limited by the use of poly-N-vinylcarbazole (PVK) layer. It has been found that the PVK layer traps electrons, resulting in low device efficiency. Inserting ZnSe/ZnS quantum dots as an interlayer between PVK and blue quantum-dot emitters can greatly enhance the performance of blue QLEDs.

Effect of Air Exposure of ZnMgO Nanoparticle Electron Transport Layer on Efficiency of Quantum-Dot Light-Emitting Diodes

Maciej Chrzanowski et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the impact of air exposure on the optical and electrical properties of ZnMgO nanoparticles, revealing that different air components play roles in modifying the electrical properties. The findings show that H2O reduces hole leakage while O-2 traps electrons, improving charge balance in the quantum-dot layer and increasing external quantum efficiency by over 2-fold. This work also highlights the potential disadvantages of device contact with air and challenges in open-air fabrication of QLEDs.
