Chiral Seeded Growth of Gold Nanorods Into Fourfold Twisted Nanoparticles with Plasmonic Optical Activity

Bing Ni et al.

Summary: A chiral growth method using cysteine as a dissymmetry inducer was developed to prepare gold nanorods with twisted morphology. Electron microscopy analysis suggests that the dissymmetry is caused by the development of chiral facets on the initial nanorods, resulting in a twisted shape. Cysteine plays a crucial role in assisting the enantioselective facet evolution, leading to the formation of highly chiral morphology with significant plasmonic optical activity.

Chiral-engineered supraparticles: Emerging tools for drug delivery

Mahfoozur Rahman et al.

Summary: The handedness of chiral-engineered supraparticles (CE-SPs) affects their interactions with cells and proteins. D-chirality-coordinated SPs show increased penetration of breast, cervical, and myeloma cell membranes. Chiral-specific interactions have been investigated through quartz crystal dissipation and isothermal titration calorimetry. D-SPs exhibit greater thermodynamic stability and longer half-lives due to their ability to shield endogenous proteins with opposite chirality. Incorporating nanosystems with D-chirality enhances drug delivery and in vivo stability, highlighting the importance of chirality in biomaterials.

Fine-tune chiroptical activity in discrete chiral Au nanorods

Summary: Accurate research on the applications of chiral plasmonic metal nanoparticles with surface plasmon resonance (SPR) still face challenges. This study demonstrates the production of chiral plasmonic metal nanoparticles with tunable chiroptical activities. The results show that the chiral properties can be precisely tailored by adjusting the longitudinal SPR (LSPR) and the amount of gold nanorods as seeds. The functionalization of a shell of another metal or semiconductor can also achieve a shift of the chiral properties within the UV-vis-NIR region. Chirality transfer from the gold core to the silver shell leads to new chiral properties in the near-UV region.
