Nonvolatile Reconfigurable Electromagnetically Induced Transparency with Terahertz Chalcogenide Metasurfaces

Summary: Metasurface analog of electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) provides a compact platform for generating a narrow-band transmission window with very sharp spectral features. Researchers have experimentally realized the reversible switching of metasurface-induced transparency in the THz spectrum by integrating a nonvolatile phase change material into the meta-atoms. The proposed reconfigurable THz metadevices may provide a new route for ultrafast laser induced switching and reconfigurable slow-light devices.

Flexible VO2 Films for In-Sensor Computing with Ultraviolet Light

Summary: With unique advantages in portability, shape adaptability, and human friendly surfaces, flexible electronics enable wearable electronic textiles and human-machine interfaces. In this study, a flexible UV neuromorphic sensor based on inorganic vanadium dioxide (VO2) films grown on mica substrates is presented. The flexible device exhibits UV photoinduced nonvolatile phase transition and can be modulated reversibly using electrolyte gating, showing high tolerance to bending deformation and adapting to various conditions.

Dynamic phase assembled terahertz metalens for reversible conversion between linear polarization and arbitrary circular polarization

Summary: This paper presents a silicon-based terahertz metalens constructed using dynamic phase to achieve single-handed circular polarization conversion. The metalens can be rotated to control the conversion of different polarization states, enabling simple manipulation of incident linear polarization terahertz waves. It is expected to be used in advanced terahertz cameras and has potential applications in polarization imaging.

Active Control of Nanodielectric-Induced THz Quasi-BIC in Flexible Metasurfaces: A Platform for Modulation and Sensing

Summary: This research demonstrates the creation of a dynamically controllable quasi-bound state in the continuum (QBIC) with ultrahigh quality factor by embedding nanometric dielectric or semiconductor layers on a symmetric metallic metasurface at terahertz frequencies. The photoexcitation of nanostrips of germanium enables ultrafast switching of a QBIC resonance with significant transmission intensity modulation, presenting opportunities for active micro-nanophotonic devices. An optimization model is provided for (switchable) QBIC resonances in metamaterial arrays, which can serve as an enabling platform for active micro-nanophotonic devices.

Flexible bilayer terahertz metasurface for the manipulation of orbital angular momentum states

Summary: A flexible bilayer metasurface for generating vortex beams in the terahertz region was proposed and experimentally verified in this study. The meta-atom based on Pancharatnam-Berry phase satisfied perfect polarization-flipping at the design frequency, enabling the generation of vortex beams under circularly polarized illumination. Experiment results showed the transition of OAM state between a single vortex beam and superposition of two vortex beams.
