Novel Biobased Epoxy Thermosets and Coatings from Poly(limonene carbonate) Oxide and Synthetic Hardeners

Vitor Bonamigo Moreira et al.

Summary: In this study, a new biobased epoxy derived from poly(limonene carbonate) oxide was developed to partially replace the classical petroleum-based raw material bisphenol A diglycidyl ether (DGEBA). The new epoxy resin showed superior thermal and mechanical properties when combined with polyetheramine and polyamineamide curing agents. A solvent-free formulation was successfully achieved, offering a promising alternative for coating technology.

Francesco Della Monica et al.

Summary: This study reports the use of terpene-based oxides derived from beta-elemene in the development of new functional semiaromatic polyesters. By sequentially and selectively transforming double bonds through epoxidation, the degree and nature of functionality in the polymer backbone can be precisely manipulated. Furthermore, direct access to cross-linked polyesters with a higher Tg is demonstrated through ring-opening polymerization of bifunctional beta-elemene dioxide and phthalic anhydride.
