Proton-Conducting Polymer Wrapped Cathode Catalyst for Enhancing Triple-Phase Boundaries in Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells

Meenakshi Seshadhri Garapati et al.

Summary: The study focuses on improving the performance and durability of proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) by synthesizing different weight percentages of proton-conducting poly(vinylphosphonic acid) (PVPA) wrapped nitrogen and sulfur doped carbon nanotubes as catalyst support. The results show that the PVPA coating enhances the triple-phase boundary density and durability of the cathode catalyst, leading to increased activity and stable electrochemical performance. The systematic variation of PVPA weight percentage helps to find the optimal proton-conducting polymer content for achieving high performance PEMFCs.

Nitrogen Plasma Modified Carbons for PEMFC with Increased Interaction with Catalyst and Ionomer

Alice Parniere et al.

Summary: Carbon black Vulcan XC72 was doped with nitrogen functionalities using nitrogen plasma, and the resulting nitrogen-doped supports exhibited higher activity and stability as electrocatalyst supports. This is attributed to the enhanced Pt-support interaction promoted by the presence of heteroatoms.

One-Dimensional Modeling for Aging of Pt-Co Core-Shell Catalysts in Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells

Yunjie Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, a 1D model was proposed to investigate the structural evolution and aging mechanism of fuel cell cathode catalytic layer. The results show that the severe dissolution of catalyst particles near the membrane interface leads to significant loss and uneven aging of the catalyst.

Evolution of microstructure and magnetic properties from amorphous Fe3O4/SiO2 nanocomposite

Anamika Ghosh et al.

Summary: Amorphous Fe3O4/SiO2 composite particles were synthesized using a one-pot sol-gel route. The evolution of Fe3O4 nanoparticles from the amorphous matrix on annealing temperatures up to 600 degrees C was studied. The analysis of magnetization data showed that annealed samples exhibited higher magnetization values and coercivity, suggesting short range magnetic order. The size and interparticle interactions of Fe3O4 nanoparticles effectively controlled magnetic interactions and anisotropy.

Anamika Ghosh et al.

Summary: Amorphous Fe3O4/SiO2 composite particles were synthesized using a one-pot sol-gel route, with Fe3O4 nanoparticles evolving from the amorphous matrix during annealing to reach a single domain state at 600 degrees C. The particles show potential applications in the design of thermal seeds for magnetic hyperthermia.

Facile synthesis and electrochemical properties of α-Fe2O3 nanoparticles/ etched carbon nanotube composites as anode for lithium-ion batteries

Dipsikha Ganguly et al.

Summary: The study introduces alpha-Fe2O3 nanoparticles/etched carbon nanotubes (ECNT) composites synthesized via oxidative etching of acid-functionalized CNT as a promising anode material for lithium-ion batteries. The incorporation of ECNT matrix effectively mitigates the low conductivity and capacity fading issues associated with alpha-Fe2O3, providing better accessibility of the electrolyte and higher active sites for Li+ ion interactions. The synergistic effect of alpha-Fe2O3 and ECNT network leads to excellent rate capability, high capacity, and stability of the anode.
