The 21st August 2020 Flood in Douala (Cameroon): A Major Urban Flood Investigated with 2D HEC-RAS Modeling

Junior Yves-Audrey Iroume et al.

Summary: A major flood event occurred in the densely populated Makepe Missoke neighborhood in Douala, Cameroon on August 21, 2020. The researchers used a 2D HEC-RAS model to simulate and classify the flood risk, providing detailed information on the flood characteristics. The simulation results showed good agreement with the observed data, indicating the model's accuracy for flood hazard assessment in Douala and potential operational application in future events.

Effects of dam break on downstream dam and lands using GIS and Hec Ras: a decision basis for the safe operation of two successive dams

Ata Amini et al.

Summary: This research optimizes the reservoir volumes of two successive dams to evaluate downstream dam stability and provide decision basis for dam safety. The HEC-RAS model was used to simulate upstream dam failure and flood routing to downstream dam reservoir.

2D-HEC-RAS Modeling of Flood Wave Propagation in a Semi-Arid Area Due to Dam Overtopping Failure

Ibtisam R. Karim et al.

Summary: The study simulated the flood wave resulting from a hypothetical dam failure in Iraq using a two-dimensional HEC-RAS model to assess the risk and provide emergency plans. The results showed the potential serious impact of a dam break and the importance of suitable management for flood risk mitigation.

An Entropic Approach to Estimating the Instability Criterion of People in Floodwaters

Zhongfan Zhu et al.

Summary: This study derives the hydrodynamic criterion of the instability of people in floodwaters using probability method based on Shannon entropy theory, focusing on incipient velocity and water depth. The proposed entropy-based model shows validity considering data scattering and could be a valuable addition to existing deterministic models for characterizing the instability criterion of people in an urban flooding event. The findings of this study could be useful for flood hazard mitigation and flood strategy management.
