Impact of land use land cover changes on flow uncertainty in Siliana watershed of northwestern Tunisia

Imen El Ghoul et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impacts of land use and land cover changes on the hydrology of the Siliana catchment in Tunisia and quantified the contribution of land use to model parameter and prediction uncertainty using the SWAT hydrological model. The results showed that the increase in olive plantations, urban area, and irrigated lands has led to a decrease in monthly flow and high flows magnitude, while having no significant impact on low flows.

Assessment of the hydrological impact of land use/cover changes in a semi-arid basin using the SWAT model (case of the Oued Saida basin in western Algeria)

Anouar Hachemaoui et al.

Summary: Using the SWAT model to analyze the impact of land use change on the hydrological response of the Oued Saida basin, the study found that changes in land cover have affected the runoff, leading to changes in water resources to some extent. This indicates that socio-economic, political, and anthropogenic conditions can have significant impacts on water resources in the basin.

Hydrological response to land use and land cover change on the slopes of Kilimanjaro and Meru Mountains

Halima O. Mangi et al.

Summary: Land use and cover change have significant impacts on the hydrological characteristics of a catchment. Agriculture is a major driver of water flow changes, leading to catastrophic shifts in aquatic ecosystems. An assessment using a hydrologic model showed that land-use changes resulted in increased surface runoff, sediment yield, and decreased groundwater recharge in the Upper Pangani Sub catchment.

The Impact of the Changes in Climate, Land Use and Direct Human Activity on the Discharge in Qingshui River Basin, China

Mengxue Zhang et al.

Summary: Climate, land use, and human activity impact the Qingshui River in Chongli County, with human activity being the main factor for discharge decrease, particularly in the summer season. The over-extraction of groundwater for irrigation and mining has led to a decreasing trend in discharge, potentially stressing sustainable water use in the future. The study's results could aid in optimizing water resource allocation and management.

Recent European drought extremes beyond Common Era background variability

Ulf Buentgen et al.

Summary: The study shows that the recent summer droughts in Europe since 2015 are unprecedented in the past 2,110 years, likely caused by anthropogenic warming and associated changes in the position of the summer jet stream.

Evaluation of bench terracing model parameters transferability for runoff and sediment yield on catchment modelling

Walid Ben Khelifa et al.

Summary: This study tested the transferability of a Bench Terrace Parameter-Set obtained through the SWAT model across different catchments. Results show that the Bench Terrace parameters had a negative impact on catchment dynamics, but considering the BTPS improved the NSE index for a specific period, demonstrating the potential for transferring BT parameters between catchments using the SWAT model.
