Potassium in plants: Growth regulation, signaling, and environmental stress tolerance

Riya Johnson et al.

Summary: Potassium is an essential element for plant growth and development, playing a vital role in regulating various functions and providing resistance against abiotic stress. This article reviews the physiological functions of potassium in plants, including stomatal regulation, photosynthesis, and water uptake, as well as its role in detoxifying reactive oxygen species and conferring tolerance to abiotic stresses.

Morphophysiology and production of guava as a function of water salinity and salicylic acid

Cassiano N. de Lacerda et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the morphophysiology and production of grafted guava cv. Paluma subjected to irrigation with saline waters and foliar application of salicylic acid. The results showed that irrigation with high electrical conductivity water negatively affected the growth and yield of guava cv. Paluma, and salicylic acid application did not mitigate the effects of salt stress.

Challenging the water stress index concept: Thermographic assessment of Arabidopsis transpiration

Andreas M. Savvides et al.

Summary: Water stress can limit plant functionality and growth, and stomatal closure is an early response to such stress. The rise of leaf temperature is associated with stomatal closure, but it is also influenced by other factors. Thermal imaging and stress indices can be used together to assess water stress more accurately.

Potassium in plant physiological adaptation to abiotic stresses

Mohammad Golam Mostofa et al.

Summary: Potassium is an essential element in plant nutrition, playing vital roles in plant growth and development. Plants have complex transport systems to maintain appropriate levels of potassium ions (K+) and respond to abiotic stresses. Understanding the mechanisms of potassium in plants is crucial for sustainable agriculture.

Salicylic acid alleviates salt stress on guava plant physiology during rootstock formation

Adnelba V. O. Xavier et al.

Summary: The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of irrigation with water of different salinities and foliar application of salicylic acid on 'Paluma' guava seedlings. The results showed that salicylic acid spray could attenuate some of the negative effects of salt stress on the seedlings, but it did not mitigate the effects on carotenoid concentration and quantum efficiency of photosystem II.

Calcium pyruvate as a salt stress mitigator in yellow passion fruit seedlings

Francisco de A. da Silva et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the effect of foliar application of pyruvate on the mitigation of salt stress in yellow passion fruit seedlings. The results showed that pyruvate application increased growth, biomass, and quality index of the passion fruit, while reducing electrolyte leakage. Additionally, pyruvate had beneficial effects on CO2 assimilation rate, transpiration, carboxylation efficiency, water use efficiency, and root dry mass.

Effects of Salinity Stress on Chloroplast Structure and Function

Abdul Hameed et al.

Summary: Salinity is a growing problem affecting soils and agriculture worldwide, disrupting metabolic processes in plant cells and negatively impacting plant development. The effects of salinity on chloroplasts, including changes in structure and function, have significant implications for plant survival, with different mechanisms observed in salt-sensitive and salt-tolerant plants.
