Form follows function in a hyperboloidical cooling Tower

Rachele Angela BernardellonAff et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a computational method to analyze the relationship between shape and performance in the built environment, specifically focusing on hyperboloidical cooling towers. By varying the shape parameter, the paper demonstrates the enhanced efficiency of the tower. This method can be applied to other surfaces and structures.

Automatic Identification and Geometrical Modeling of Steel Rivets of Historical Structures from Lidar Data

Alvaro Pereira et al.

Summary: Riveting structures were widely used from the mid-19th to early 20th century, still in use globally today, and considered an important part of the built cultural heritage. Maintaining and conserving these structures is crucial, with HBIM methodology seen as an ideal tool for tracking control and conservation-related actions. Automatic identification and 3D modeling of rivets in iron and steel structures have been proposed as a novel methodology, tested on laboratory specimens and real-scale bridges.

NerfingMVS: Guided Optimization of Neural Radiance Fields for Indoor Multi-view Stereo

Yi Wei et al.

Summary: In this work, a new multi-view depth estimation method is proposed, utilizing both conventional SfM reconstruction and learning-based priors over NeRF. The method directly optimizes over implicit volumes, guided by adapted depth priors, improving depth quality significantly in indoor scenes. The approach combines the advantages of correspondence-based optimization and NeRF-based optimization, without sacrificing the original synthesis capability of neural radiance fields.
