Dominant Factors and Spatial Heterogeneity of Land Surface Temperatures in Urban Areas: A Case Study in Fuzhou, China

Liuqing Yang et al.

Summary: This study quantified the urban heat island (UHI) effect using Landsat 8 image inversion land surface temperatures (LSTs). By employing ordinary least squares (OLS) regression, geographically weighted regression (GWR) models, and multi-scale geographically weighted regression (MGWR), the researchers explored the spatial heterogeneities of the influencing factors and LST. The findings highlight the importance of factors such as building density, normalized difference impervious surface index (NDISI), and sky view factor (SVF) in elevated LST, while building height, forest land percentage, and waterbody percentage were negatively correlated with LST. Furthermore, the study revealed significant spatial non-stationary characteristics for variables like built-up percentage and population density.

Construction of a Scoring Evaluation Model for Identifying Urban Functional Areas Based on Multisource Data

Feixue Jia et al.

Summary: In rapidly developing cities, it is crucial to obtain accurate functional area maps to evaluate the urbanization process and its impact on urban planning. A new scoring evaluation model was constructed to identify urban functional areas using point of interest (POI) data and considering the size differences of the entity objects represented by POIs. The model improved accuracy compared to traditional models and showed strong robustness. It provides an accurate full-coverage regional functional area map to help planners obtain urban spatial structures and make scientific decisions.

Summary: Global surface temperature has been setting new record highs, posing increasing challenges for societies and ecosystems worldwide. In this study, two independent datasets, one from remote-sensing and one from surface modeling and observations, are analyzed to estimate land surface temperature change rates. The results show that the global average land surface temperature rate of change was 0.26-0.34°C per decade during the period 2001-2020, with significant regional variations. The Arctic, Europe, and Russia experienced the most significant warming.

Big Geospatial Data and Data-Driven Methods for Urban Dengue Risk Forecasting: A Review

Zhichao Li et al.

Summary: With advancements in big geospatial data and artificial intelligence, multi-source data and diverse data-driven methods are commonly used in dengue risk prediction. The review found that the main predictors in dengue risk prediction include climate conditions, historical cases, vegetation indices, and human mobility. These predictors are derived from various sources such as meteorological datasets, public websites, and health department data. The spatial scales used range from city-level to neighborhood-level, with a focus on city-level analysis. The most popular temporal scales are monthly and weekly. Data-driven methods are categorized into single models, ensemble learning, and hybrid learning, with a dominance of regression-based approaches. Model evaluation focuses on comparing observed and predicted values, determining outbreak occurrences, and assessing model uncertainty. Future dengue risk forecasting will prioritize big geospatial data, data cloud computing, and deep learning models.

Impacts of Spatial Configuration of Land Surface Features on Land Surface Temperature across Urban Agglomerations, China

Qiang Zhang et al.

Summary: This study analyzed data from three urban agglomerations in China over the period 2000-2015, revealing a general rise in land surface temperature attributed to decreased urban green space. The impacts of impervious surface area and urban green space on land surface temperature were found to be more significant than their geometrical shapes. Continuous expansion of impervious surface area and shrinking of urban green space are predicted to drive a rising tendency of land surface temperature, with larger cities showing a larger rising tendency.
