Remote Sensing Prediction Model of Cultivated Land Soil Organic Matter Considering the Best Time Window

Yiang Wang et al.

Summary: This study uses different time windows of remote sensing images and random forest regression algorithm to predict the organic matter content in black soil farmland. The results show that using image bands and spectral index can improve the prediction accuracy of organic matter content, but the accuracy of synthetic images is lower than that of single-phase images.

Regional mapping of soil organic matter content using multitemporal synthetic Landsat 8 images in Google Earth Engine

Chong Luo et al.

Summary: The study proposed a high spatial resolution SOM mapping method based on multitemporal synthetic images in the Songnen Plain, Northeast China. The use of spectral index combined with image band input improved SOM prediction accuracy. The median synthetic image had higher accuracy compared to average, maximum, and minimum synthesized images, and more years of synthesized images provided more robust SOM prediction results. May was identified as the optimal time window for SOM mapping on the Songnen Plain.

Estimation of soil organic matter content using selected spectral subset of hyperspectral data

Weichao Sun et al.

Summary: Soil organic matter (SOM) plays a vital role in the global carbon cycle and agriculture. This study proposes a method to estimate SOM content by extracting informative spectral subsets based on soil constituents and utilizing partial least squares regression (PLSR). The results demonstrate that using spectral bands associated with clay minerals and organic matter can improve the accuracy of SOM estimation.

Fine-Scale Mapping of Soil Organic Matter in Agricultural Soils Using UAVs and Machine Learning

Jannis Heil et al.

Summary: This study developed a method for predicting topsoil soil organic matter (SOM) at a high resolution on the field scale using soil color information gained from low-altitude UAV imagery and machine learning. The method showed good performance in predicting SOM with a random forest model, and the validation using external data indicated that the prediction models are transferable to neighboring fields, enabling carbon monitoring over time.

A Novel Change Detection Approach Based on Spectral Unmixing from Stacked Multitemporal Remote Sensing Images with a Variability of Endmembers

Ke Wu et al.

Summary: The study proposes a novel change detection approach which tackles the challenges of mixed pixels and variations in endmembers by utilizing image stacking and dividing based on spectral unmixing, resulting in improved detection accuracy. Experimental results show that in simulated data, the overall accuracy and Kappa coefficient values reached 99.61% and 0.99. For two sets of real data, the highest accuracy rates were 93.26% and 80.85%, showing an increase of 14.88% and 13.42% compared to the worst results. Additionally, the Kappa coefficient values were consistent with the accuracy rates.

Deterministic and geostatistical models for predicting soil organic carbon in a 60 ha farm on Inceptisol in Varanasi, India

Biswabara Sahu et al.

Summary: Geostatistical models outperformed deterministic and machine learning models in predicting SOC, likely due to differences in weightage calculation and higher bias in IDW compared to EBK. Geostatistical methods had a more precise prediction technique compared to deterministic interpolation. Machine learning performed poorly compared to EBK in the absence of auxiliary supporting parameters.
