Autocatalytic influence of different levels of arsine on the thermal stability and pyrolysis of polypropylene

Hernandez-Fernandez Joaquin et al.

Summary: The pyrolysis and thermo-degradation of virgin-polypropylene with different levels of arsenic in its polymer matrix at 500 degrees C were studied. The presence of arsine in propylene and arsenic in the residues significantly impacted the material properties, especially the melt flow index. The formation of arsine and other species led to mass loss and atypical thermal decomposition behavior in PP.

Effects of Different Concentrations of Arsine on the Synthesis and Final Properties of Polypropylene

Joaquin Hernandez-Fernandez et al.

Summary: This article investigates the effects of arsine on the synthesis and thermal degradation of polypropylene. Reaction mechanisms are proposed to explain the behavior, showing that arsine content is correlated with the fluidity index of polypropylene. The thermo-oxidative degradation is caused by the reaction of arsine with the titanium center of the catalyst, forming radical complexes that lead to the formation of functional groups and increased degradation peaks.

Experimental Study of the Impact of Trace Amounts of Acetylene and Methylacetylene on the Synthesis, Mechanical and Thermal Properties of Polypropylene

Joaquin Hernandez-Fernandez et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the impact of acetylene and methyl acetylene impurities on the synthesis process and material properties of polypropylene. The findings reveal that low concentrations of these impurities have no effect on resin properties, but high concentrations result in decreased resistance. In production, decreasing concentrations of acetylene and methyl acetylene gradually affect the process.

Summary: The application of mathematical modelling and multivariate statistics in infrared spectrum analysis can accurately determine the molecular properties of substances. In this study, PCA analysis and PLS model were used to classify and determine the concentrations of polypropylene and polyethylene in a binary polymer mixture. This method showed good reproducibility and could predict the polyethylene content in pellets without the use of any chemicals.
