Direct measurement and verification of cohesive zone model parameters for basalt/PP rods using the transverse tensile test and virtual double cantilever beam test

Yuta Tobata et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the mode I-governed cohesive zone model parameter of a basalt fiber reinforced polypropylene composite rod to better understand failure mechanisms in thermoplastic-based composite rods. The relationships between stress, strain, maximum normal traction, and final separation displacement are examined through transverse tensile testing, and the measured traction is validated using three-dimensional finite element analysis. The numerical results reveal the correlation between crack length and cube root of compliance, providing a representative value for the mode I-governed critical fracture energy.

Evaluation of crack growth behaviors under Mode I static loading for two-part polyurethane adhesives

Yuki Ogawa et al.

Summary: In recent years, structural polyurethane adhesives have been developed and a loading-unloading test method has been proposed to evaluate the crack growth behavior of these adhesives under different conditions. The experimental results are in agreement with the theoretical model.

AFM observation of sea-island structure formed by second generation acrylic adhesive

Asuka Hayashi et al.

Summary: The composition of adhesive-adherend interfaces plays a crucial role in adhesive joint strength. By studying the formation and physical properties of sea-island structures, the relationship between interface structure and bonding strength was revealed, which is closely related to the wettability of the adhesive to the adherends.

Experimental investigation of the effects of adhesive thickness on the fracture behavior of structural acrylic adhesive joints under various loading rates

Yu Sekiguchi et al.

Summary: Experimental investigation on the fracture resistance of a second-generation acrylic adhesive reveals that thinner adhesive layers result in higher fracture energy, which linearly increases with adhesive thickness until reaching a certain point where a non-linear relationship emerges. Moreover, increasing the loading rate alters fracture behavior, with stick-slip crack propagation observed at higher rates.

Influence of Manufacturing Process in Structural Health Monitoring and Mechanical Behaviour of CNT Reinforced CFRP and Ti6Al4V Multi-Material Joints

S. Dasilva et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the influence of manufacturing processes on the morphological quality and mechanical behavior of multi-material metal-polymer composites joints, as well as the effects of additives on the properties of composite materials. It was found that the manufacturing process affects the polymer interface thickness and porosity, which in turn strongly influence the mechanical behavior and structural health monitoring sensitivity.
