Preparation of combined oleophobic fibre filters with pore size gradients and their high-efficiency removal of oil mist droplets

Feng Chen et al.

Summary: Pore size is crucial for oil mist droplet removal by coalescence filter, but the influence of pore size distribution on filtration performance is not well explored. This study developed a method to prepare glass fiber filtration media with specific structure, oleophobic properties, and mechanical strength. The combined filters with increasing, decreasing, and uniform pore size distribution were analyzed for pressure drop and droplet penetration ratio. The filter with decreasing pore size gradient had the lowest steady-state pressure drop, best filtration performance for submicron droplets, and layering characteristics. The filter with increasing pore size gradient had the highest separation efficiency and lower downstream droplet concentration based on capillary theory.

Filtration of Submicron Soot Particles, Oil Droplets, and their Mixtures on Single- and Multi-layer Fibrous Filters

Mateusz Kaminski et al.

Summary: The dynamics of filtration efficiency and pressure drop during the simultaneous filtration of soot and oil aerosols on single-and multi-layer filters were investigated. The addition of oil aerosols decreased the filtration efficiency and lowered the pressure drop increase rate for multi-layer filters. Furthermore, for aerosols containing soot and high oil concentrations, an efficiency decrease occurred once maximum filtration efficiency was reached. The system imperfection factor and modified single fibre efficiency method were proposed to predict the efficiency and calculate filter mass change.

Mixture Aerosols Filtration on Filters with Wide Fibre Diameter Distribution-Comparison with Theoretical and Empirical Models

Mateusz Kaminski et al.

Summary: This study developed a methodology for calculating aerosol filtration efficiency using non-woven filters with polydispersity distribution of fiber diameters. The results show that dividing the diameter distribution into multiple ranges can minimize the error caused by the underrepresentation of the fiber distribution.
