Enhancement of Photostabilization of Poly(Vinyl Chloride) in the Presence of Tin-Cephalexin Complexes

Rafid R. Arraq et al.

Summary: Poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) has attractive properties such as low cost, acid and alkali resistance, and ease of molding, but it suffers from aging. Adding tin-cephalexin complexes to PVC can improve its stability to irradiation. This study investigates the effect of these complexes on the photodecomposition of PVC and confirms their role as stabilizers by reducing the rate of photodecomposition.

Polymer-Based Nanofiber-Nanoparticle Hybrids and Their Medical Applications

Mingxin Zhang et al.

Summary: The search for higher-quality nanomaterials for medicinal applications is ongoing. Electrospun fibers, which have similarities with natural tissues, have made significant progress in medical applications. Combining nanoparticles and nanofibers in composite materials allows for additional functions, such as photothermal, magnetic response, biosensing, antibacterial, drug delivery, and biosensing. There are two primary ways to prepare nanofiber and nanoparticle hybrids (NNHs): through single-step electrospinning or through the self-assembly technique. This paper focuses on the application of NNHs in drug release, antibacterial effects, and tissue engineering, utilizing biocompatible polymer composites.

Modifications of Polymers through the Addition of Ultraviolet Absorbers to Reduce the Aging Effect of Accelerated and Natural Irradiation

Gamal A. El-Hiti et al.

Summary: The photooxidative degradation process caused by ultraviolet irradiation can lead to the deterioration of mechanical and physical properties of plastics. Plastic ultraviolet photostabilizers have been developed to counteract this process and enhance the photostability of polymeric materials. Synthetic ultraviolet absorbers have shown promising results in improving the surface morphology and reducing damage caused by UV aging.

Synthesis and Application of Levofloxacin-Tin Complexes as New Photostabilizers for Polyvinyl Chloride

Marwa Fadhil et al.

Summary: Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is a synthetic polymer widely used in our daily life, but its useful lifetime can be shortened due to photodegradation, which also produces toxic products. Therefore, finding additives to reduce the photodecomposition of PVC is important. In this study, new levofloxacin-tin complexes were synthesized and tested for their ability to reduce PVC photodegradation. The results showed that these new additives effectively reduced the photodegradation of PVC by absorbing ultraviolet light and quenching reactive species. They were more effective than previously reported organotin complexes.
