Nanoemulgel: A Novel Nano Carrier as a Tool for Topical Drug Delivery

The focus on nano-emulgel has increased due to its targeted delivery, ease of application, absence of gastrointestinal degradation or the first pass metabolism, and safety profile. This review discusses the formulation components, pharmacokinetics, and safety profiles of nano-emulgel for topical drug delivery.

Bio-Inspired Drug Delivery Systems: From Synthetic Polypeptide Vesicles to Outer Membrane Vesicles

Synthetic polypeptides, composed of repeating amino acid units, can form polypeptide vesicles under suitable conditions. Outer membrane vesicles (OMVs), originating from Gram-negative bacteria, are spherical buds filled with periplasmic content. PVs and OMVs, due to their biodegradability and biocompatibility, have been utilized as drug carriers. In this review, we discuss recent drug delivery research based on PVs and OMVs, including production methods, vesicle design, and biological assessment, as well as future challenges.

Summary: The effects of different emulsifiers (SPI-SE and WPI-SE) on the properties of the emulsion during the microencapsulation of cannabis oil were studied. The results showed that the concentration of SE in the emulsions influenced the interfacial tension, particle size, zeta potential, interfacial protein concentration, viscoelastic properties, and viscosity of the emulsions. The addition of SE in both emulsion systems effectively stabilized the emulsion and changed the composition and strength of the oil-water interface. The cannabis oil microcapsules prepared with protein-SE as an emulsion system exhibited high quality.

This study aimed to prepare biphasic formulations with 1% ciclopirox olamine and investigate the influence of oil incorporation method on the properties of the formulations. The results showed that using poloxamer 407 gel as the hydrophase could lead to stable formulations regardless of the oil incorporation method, while the addition of emulsifier improved the stability of the formulations.
