A Comprehensive Study on the Anti-cancer Effects of Quercetin and Its Epigenetic Modifications in Arresting Progression of Colon Cancer Cell Proliferation

Meenu Bhatiya et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the anticancer and anti-aging effects of quercetin in colon cancer cell lines. The results showed that quercetin inhibited cell proliferation by modulating the expression of aging proteins and inhibiting telomerase activity. Additionally, quercetin provided DNA damage protection by reducing proteasome 20S levels. Moreover, the miRNA expression profiling revealed differential expression of miRNA involved in the regulation of cell cycle, proliferation, and transcription in colon cancer cells. These findings provide a better understanding of quercetin's potential use in colon cancer treatment.

Possible Mechanisms of Oxidative Stress-Induced Skin Cellular Senescence, Inflammation, and Cancer and the Therapeutic Potential of Plant Polyphenols

Hui-Min Liu et al.

Summary: As the body's greatest defense organ, the skin is exposed to internal and external stressors that generate reactive oxygen species (ROS), leading to oxidative stress, skin cellular senescence, inflammation, and cancer. Oxidative stress-induced skin cellular senescence, inflammation, and cancer can occur through two main mechanisms: direct degradation of essential biological macromolecules by ROS, and modulation of signaling pathways affecting cytokine release and enzyme expression. Plant polyphenols, such as curcumin, catechins, resveratrol, quercetin, ellagic acid, and procyanidins, have therapeutic potential as natural antioxidants. The delivery of plant polyphenols to the skin and current clinical research on polyphenols, especially curcumin, are summarized, providing a theoretical foundation for future clinical research and the development of pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
