In Vitro Comparison of Surface Roughness, Flexural, and Microtensile Strength of Various Glass-Ionomer-Based Materials and a New Alkasite Restorative Material

Alper Kaptan et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the physical properties of Cention N and various glass-ionomer-based materials in vitro. The self-cured Cention N exhibited the highest flexural strength and lowest surface roughness among the tested materials. Although the bond strength was lower than conventional composites and compomers, it was similar to resin-modified glass ionomer cements. Additionally, the best material-to-material bonding was found between self-cured Cention N and conventional composites.

Effect of enamel-surface modifications on shear bond strength using different adhesive materials

Bo-wen Zheng et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of enamel-surface modifications on the shear bond strength between ceramic brackets and the enamel surface when bonded using different adhesive materials. The study found that resin-modified glass ionomer cement (RMGIC) adhesive achieved the required clinical bond strength without damaging the enamel surface. Treatment of the enamel surface with 5.25% sodium hypochlorite under non-acid-etching conditions was found to be more effective.

Incorporation of Nanomaterials in Glass Ionomer Cements-Recent Developments and Future Perspectives: A Narrative Review

Radu Claudiu Fierascu

Summary: This paper reviews the literature on the application of various types of nanomaterials to enhance the mechanical and antimicrobial properties of GICs. These modifications can potentially lead to clinical benefits including better physical properties and prevention of tooth decay. The study covers the use of metallic nanoparticles, metallic and metalloid oxide nanoparticles, apatitic nanomaterials, and other nanomaterials or multi-component nanocomposites.

Extract of Propolis on Resin-Modified Glass Ionomer Cement: Effect on Mechanical and Antimicrobial Properties and Dentin Bonding Strength

Narges Panahandeh et al.

Summary: This study found that the addition of propolis did not enhance the antibacterial properties of resin-modified glass ionomer cement against S. mutans, but instead decreased its flexural and shear bond strength.
