Simulation of Dielectric Properties of Nanocomposites with Non-Uniform Filler Distribution

Romeo C. Ciobanu et al.

Summary: The dielectric properties of nanocomposites with metallic fillers inside a polymer matrix were determined using CST STUDIO SUITE-Electromagnetic field simulation software and the free-space Nicolson-Ross-Weir procedure. A randomly generated structure was used to simulate the non-uniformity of real nanomaterials. Cubic insertions were equated to spherical particles to maintain consistency in volume or exterior surface index. The energy concentration around the inserts and within the material provided useful information for designing materials that do not exceed field/temperature limit values. The study successfully correlated dialectic measurements with computer simulations, which are based on energetic effects in electromagnetic applications, and demonstrated practical applications in electromagnetic shielding and microwave domain/telecommunications.

Curing, Properties and EMI Absorption Shielding of Rubber Composites Based on Ferrites and Carbon Fibres

Jan Kruzelak et al.

Summary: Magnetic soft ferrites, namely manganese-zinc ferrite, nickel-zinc ferrite and their combinations, were incorporated into acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber with carbon fibers to fabricate composite materials. The effect of the fillers on absorption shielding performance of the composites within the frequency range 1-6 GHz was investigated. Results showed that the absorption shielding efficiency of both composites increased with increasing proportion of nickel-zinc ferrite. The addition of carbon fibers and ferrites resulted in lower absorption shielding performance due to their higher electrical conductivity and permittivity.

Flexible polystyrene/graphene composites with epsilon-near-zero properties

Zheng Zhang et al.

Summary: This work focuses on the fabrication and characterization of flexible polystyrene/graphene (PS/GR) composites with epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) properties at radio frequency. The addition of graphene nanosheets in PS matrix led to the formation of a continuous conductive network, resulting in the observation of ENZ behavior at around 920 kHz. This research demonstrates the potential of flexible PS/GR composites in applications such as invisibility cloaks, drug delivery, and soft robotics.

Mechanical and Dielectric Properties of a Flexible Anisotropic Rubber-Based Composite

Jie Dong et al.

Summary: A series of anisotropic flexible rubber-based composites were prepared using a two-roll milling and hot-pressing process, with additives directly arranged in the material. Significant differences in tensile strength, elongation at break, and dielectric properties were observed between the T and W directions, attributed to the directional arrangement of the additives.

Doped ceramics of indium oxides for negative permittivity materials in MHz-kHz frequency regions

Guohua Fan et al.

Summary: The study investigated the negative permittivity in indium tin oxide (ITO) ceramics, revealing that the negative permittivity is mainly caused by plasma oscillations of free carriers, while the dielectric loss is mainly attributed to conduction loss. The magnitude and frequency dispersion of negative permittivity are mainly determined by carrier concentration, and the mechanism has been preliminarily understood from the perspective of carriers.

Vulcanization of Ti3C2Tx MXene/natural rubber composite films for enhanced electromagnetic interference shielding

Yanqin Wang et al.

Summary: High-performance Ti3C2Tx MXene/natural rubber composite films with brick-mortar and honeycomb structure were successfully fabricated using a pressured-extrusion filtration process and subsequent curing treatment. The microstructure of the composite films changed from brick-mortar to honeycomb structures after vulcanization, leading to significant improvements in both EMI shielding and mechanical properties. The honeycomb structure composite films exhibited ultrahigh EMI shielding effectiveness of 63.5 dB and optimal tensile strength of 39.5 MPa, indicating a new idea for producing high-performance rubber-based EMI shielding materials.
